These are some recordings that I've found, examples of the broadcast work we did for the BBC in the mid 60's. we'd record musical 'Inserts' once a week for a couple of years for the BBC national programmes like 'Nightride" and the "Jimmy Young Show" The morning session was with a 12 piece band that was called "The Dalley Daily Dozen" led by Graham Dalley on trumpet, (Graham was also resident at the 'Castaways' along with the Waikiki Islanders.) The recording was in the BBC Broad Street Studios from 9.00am 'till 12.30pm and we were expected to complete 30 tunes. One take, straight from the 'Dots'.. and then in the afternoon from 2.00pm 'till 5.30pm we'd record with our 'Hawaiian' group with a similar scenario
Pat and myself, Frank Kahili-Leadon, (Vocals and Congas) - Clive Morton (Bass) - Phil Shapiro (Piano) - Trevor Charlton (Drums and vibes)
There must have been a colossal amount of material recorded, but all I can find is just a very small example.

This is an example of the 12 piece..

Thanks Andy, for some strange reason the BBC producers seemed to like the sound I created when I used the 'Mute' of the Fender 1000..It was a prime requisite for any tune we played.

It makes the comments about the mute being 'Useless' as rather invalid..My mute use probably bought me 3 or 4 guitars !!

Great clips Baz! Frank reminds me of Dean Martin on some of his vocals. Very good voice!
You certainly have had a great career playing the Steel Guitar, which you do so well. Thanks for posting those tunes from your radio years, they showcase your versatility on the Steel Guitar. Post more of them if you will.

That takes me back. I'm sure I heard some of that when it was originally broadcast back when I was a still a schoolboy in london. The Jimmy Young Show was required listening for my Mother and Grandmother. Nice job Basil, being so young at the time I never even knew there was a steel guitar there.

Steve...TTFN (Tat ta for now) is a REAL Jimmy Young colloquialism along with his catch-phrase for slimmers :-
"Fight the Flab"
If you lived in London, I suppose there's a possibility that you could remember the HMV record store on Oxford Street ? Whenever I was at the Abbey Road studios doing sessions, EMI used to get me to go to the HMV Store to do promos etc.
I also used to travel down to London to the Maida Vale Studios of the BBC for Night-Ride (Brian Mathews) recordings with my Hawaiian Group and had many a party on the longboat in 'Little Venice' owned by that "Virgin" guy !! Richard ? they named a town in Missouri after him !!

Thanks Baz for sharing the tune Da Hill Sigh Oh.
To have been a part of such a great musical group, as heard in that recording, would have been a dream come true for someone like me.
I'm sure you appreciated all the great musicians that you have performed with over the years too.
I have found that the better the musicians, the easier the performance, at least from my point of view.
Thanks and keep posting your tunes.

Absolutely wonderful.
Takes me back to a more innocent day and age.
If I can find the tabs for Adventuers in Paridise I am gong to have the band work it up.
I want to see the reaction on the dance floor
and I bet it fills up.
