Hi there folks, I am not sure what the case will be like for my SD10 Rains I am collecting from the Dallas Show..Does anyone firstly know if it a stardard type PSG Case? If it is, does anyone know if I will be able to get a flight case from the Dallas show or can I get one made up in time for the show? Cant get hold of Bob R. on the phone. Hope I am not leaving it too late to request this. I know how things get thrown around during flights and dont want to risk getting it damaged..Thanking you in anticipation of your replies, David Hartley

Try www.opti-case.com they usually can turn a super high quality flight case in about 10 days and they are out of Texas.

David,

The case that came with my Rains SD-10 is a carpet covered case with recessed butterfly latches and good hardware. I think there are other cases that you can get with the rains like the tolex covered cases with standard hardware. My guess is they will have a couple of different cases available. Don't think for a minute though that the airlines can't destroy a heavy duty road case. British airways knocked a hole the size of my fist in the top of my 600.00 road case that I had bought 2 weeks prior to flying to London. It's gonna be a gamble no matter what. I know several pro players that fly constantly with just the standard case that came with their guitar. I think Fred Justice is building some of the cases for Rains these days. He'll probably chime in here in a little bit.

My case is just like Gaylon's. It's a sturdy case and that's what you will likely get. It has hard plastic corner pieces and stips on the bottom, which ease sliding. I've had "good luck" flying with my Emmons, which is Tolex, by making a cardboard case. It's cheap and will save the hardware and Tolex. Doesn't do much for dropping.
It's a crap-shoot either way, but I've flown all over this way. I need a flight case, but more weight=more $ with the airlines. Just make sure you insure.

Hey Fred....when is the Dallas show? Maybe I'm off that weekend and I can come visit. I haven't been to a steel show in forever.

David, talk to me in Dallas about flight cases. One of the finest cases made for steel guitar are made in UK, and I am a Dealer for them. The case will be custom built to the measurements of your guitar.
Look forward to meeting you in Dallas....Ted
