Sneaky Pete never ceases to amaze people. I just learned that he made a sound track in 1968 for singer John Brayden. Pete played all the instrument sounds on the track. Effects devices were very limited in those days, but Pete managed to pull it off in style. I don't know what he used to manufacture the different instruments. Perhaps I can get more info about that.
I posted the song on my website. Just go to my site and click on "sound clips". Then click on "Sneaky Pete". You can then click on the song "Song For Raymondo"(vocal by John Brayden). My thanks to Anita Kleinow (Petes daughter)for sending this song to me.

I vaguely remember this; wonderful to hear it.
I continue to find that Pete was a major influence on me, even when I didn't know it. What an orchestrator!

Funny you should mention that album. I have it on vinyl. I haven't heard it in years. I'll give it another listen. DZ |

There's a Danny o'Keefe song called "Quits" from the early 70's (So Long Harry Truman album) wherein Pete performs a thoroughly convincing multitracked string section accompniment.... one of my faves
it's available on iTunes |

In another thread recently I spoke my respect for Sneaky Pete. He was as original as could be. He took his Fender guitar and played his way. Dan Dugmore bought his first steel guitar from Sneaky. It was an MSA. Sneaky was a direct influence on Dan's playing and still is today. Dan uses 8 and 10 string Fenders in the studio today ( listen to Montgomery Gentry, "She Couldnt't Change Me", its a Fender with distortion on it). You will here a direct influence on Dan's playing from Pete. We talk about Pete and how great he is in our conversations sometimes. Sneaky Pete influenced a whole generation of steelers. He should be in the Hall Of Fame. [This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 28 January 2006 at 11:28 AM.] |
