and only for the curiosity factor..
Why do some of us sign off each post with all the gear we may play or own ?
Don't get me wrong, I don't have any issues with it, I am just curious why some do it and some don't...
just throwin' it out there..
I'll start..
as a general rule I don't..
I personally don't think anybody really cares what Steel, Amps and Guitars I have ..
there's days I don't either !
and plus, just more room for TYPO's..

I didn't have a signature for a long time, then noticed that b0b had a really cool way of personalizing his posts. It includes links to his EMail, website, and includes what I assume is the equipment that he uses. So I just copied our fearless SysOp.
I know I've had people ask me what kind of guitars I play so I just put it in my signature. No big deal. I too could write a book if I listed everything i OWN and doubt that many do so.
I think that putting a little bit of personal information in your post is what a signature block is intended to do. But I COULD be wrong. Maybe it's just an act of vanity.
And also, FWIW, there are no typos -- you only type it in ONCE. It's part of the Forum software to create a sig block that may be included in your posts. Maybe some folks didn't know that. Personally, I ALWAYS read them.

I think it is silly for guys to sign off with their equipment. If I did that the list would be tremendous. I own 3 steels, 4 amps, 3 standup electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, a dobro, and all kinds of assorted extras......... [This message was edited by Ron Sodos on 17 January 2006 at 07:31 AM.] |

It's a good place to put a nickname or website link, but the listing of gear seems rather silly to me, unless you're a paid endorser.
I care how you play, not "what" you play. |

I use my sig sometimes, sometimes not. Usually I use it when there's some reason I think someone in the thread needs to be aware I'm one of the eccentric Fender players...

I use my web-page and my photo web-site as my signature......
I am surprise as to the many hits I get on both sites. Makes me feel good that the Steel community enjoyes the photos of the NTSGA "SuperJams". I update it ever now and then.
The PSG community is a blast, great friends, and a truly learning experience for us.
Most of all,we should support b0b,who keeps this forum up and runnin' for us. Buy stuff from him, send donations, and should you sell something,PLEASE sendf the forum the 2.5% to help keep this wonderful site up and running.

I guess someone could probably figure out what gear I have by reading my questions and posts here on the forum but, I don't list them in a profile or on my posts.
Rick
P.S. Like Tony said, that's just another chance to mis-speel something and have the forum police all in a fuss. |

You are known by the company you keep.
People like people who are more like themselvs.
Your gear is part of your profile and those who sign with a list of their gear I consider a courtesy.

Some people think I play U-12 but I don't. Some people want to know my copedents for research reasons. Some people want to know about my band. Some people are even interested enough in me to read my blog.
Putting links to all of these things in my sig helps generate web traffic to my sites. It also boosts my ratings in Google.
And yes, I also have a big ego trip about my preferences in guitars. I'm proud of the choices I've settled on over the years. It's a pretty nice crop of instruments, I think.

I think it's cool that guys are so proud of their equipment that they list it. And I enjoy seeing what people play. I did that for awhile, then the list got so long it was embarrassing, so I deleted it. Now I've added back a general summary.

I don't sign off with the equipment I own, because everything I have is just borrowed anyway. Speaking of that, does anyone have a mid fifties Strat I could borrow?

I usually like to have my signature with my gear because ever since I joined the forum, I didn't want to put just my name into my signature. I want other players to know what steels I've got. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10 |
