I just got a copy of Richard's CD, "Moment's Notice", and all I can say is Wow. Besides Richard's fine playing on a very challenging bunch of tunes,it's great to hear a real jazz rhythm section on a steel guitar record.I know I'm a little behind the curve on this guy, but I'm glad to have caught up. |

I don't have Richard's "Moments Notice" but I recently got his "Story Book" and was just a little surprised that he's doing the vocals on all but three of the tracks.
Somehow I was expecting a "steel only" album but I have to say that after listening to it he's more than a half-ways decent singer as well as being a superb steel player.
On the vocal numbers he plays some very subtle and tasteful steel back-up, and he's superb on the three instrumentals as well.
Well worth a listen. |

Steve, Richard Nelson is the finest steel player in Ireland, and beleive me we do have some great players over here in the Emerald Isle, but he is the only serious C6th player in the land. He has a real passion for Jazz.
Currently playing pedal steel for Van Morrison, and has been the steel player for Top Acts like Daniel O Donnell and Mick Flavin. Always in demand as a studio musician. Come and visit our Irish Steel Guitar Festival in Oct 2006. Richard will be there, as like myself, he is one of the organizers of the show. Good Luck for 2006 |
