So Billy, you are now like the rest of us around Dallas, a Junior Knightite...ehh? If you want to learn to play steel the way it is supposed to be played, go listen to Jr. one night and then go kick your steel a couple of times, grit your teeth, then sit down and try to figure out how he does that!! ha and good luck..GP

Junior is also one of the best six string guitar players you'll ever hear. I recently aquired his old Carter, so I would sound just like him. It hasn't worked out that way so far.

Jr. Knight was my first television influence in the 70's when he played with Dewey Groom and the Longhorn Ballroom Band. I could not wait for Saturday to roll around to hear him play. Now many years later I have met him and he is a gentleman. Just a great musician that has my deepest respect.

Like Paul said, I used to watch Junior and Gary Hogue play with Dewey Groom here in Dallas. Those guys heavily influenced me to try to be a steel player. I always wanted to play like Junior and Gary. 30 years later, I haven't even gotten close.

Jr. Knight has been my HERO seems like forever. He played on my CD, was the engineer also and all this happened at his studio. To me HE wrote the book on "tone to the bone", right up there with Buddy, Lloyd and Jimmy. I too planned my Saturday's around the Dewey Groom Show and my family still reminds me of it to this day! And by the way he is a true gentlemen and one of my closest and dearest freinds and brother in Christ. It don't get any better than that.

Like several others here, Junior was a major influence on me, along with Gary Hogue. I was more fortunate than most because I got to be on the bandstand with them every night, 5 nights a week, at Dewey Groom's back in the 70s.

Junior was up there with the best players in the world when I first met and worked with him 30 years ago. His 6 string playing was too, and I tried to get as much of it to rub off on me as possible. I know he had to cringe every time I put the fiddle down and picked up the 6 string. But he put up with me and never said an unkind word. A better person you will never find. God has truly blessed Junior Knight.

I also saw Jr. Last night at Red River and was my first chance to talk with him but not my first chance to hear him play. A real gentleman and a super player, I just wish he'd make playing steel look hard. Total command of the insturment and hot licks to die for. Jr. was playing his
SD Mullen. I'm not sure of knee levers but it had 4 on the floor. House band did a great job too.

Websters defines a "Knightite" as one who plays steel guitar and decides to go out and see other steel players to try to learn and improve their playing and wonders into an establishment where Junior Knight happens to be playing and hears what he believes a steel was designed to do. He meets the humble man. He leaves to go call the Queen to tell her he has a recommendation of Knighthood. Thus, one becomes a Knightite.
All joking aside Jr., it is about time you get the recognition nationally that you deserve. You are an inspiration not only in your playing but the way you live your life as well. One of the true heroes in this business.

Junior Knight is my "HERO". When I grow up I want to be just like him, or close. He plays Steel Guitar so great and just wears out a lead guitar. And then he has to be such a nice guy. Junior you are to much. Thanks for being my friend. Loveya pal. Bobby

I echo them sentiments about Junior Knight, a Great player and a Great Person.

I bought his S12 Carter from Del Mullen with 8 pedals and 8 knee levers, With his great C6 tuning on it. I figured that I would still find some of his licks in it. No Dice.

I also bought his D10 Carter with 8 pedals and 8 knee levers, from Duanne Dunard, another great guy to know....al

If you were ever fortunate enough to meet Junior, and you had never heard him pickup a six string or play that steel guitar the way he does, you would still feel that you had met one of the greatest guys on earth bar none.

I have to ditto what Johnny and all the others have said about Bro. Jr. His playing is Awesome! He is a true Gentleman beyond what words can express. I feel VERY fortunate to be able to consider Jr. Knight as a personal friend. As an Officer with the Texas Steel Guitar Association and Jr. being on the Board of Directors, I have to keep my Halo shining 24/7 HA! Seriously though, I have alot of respect and love for Jr Knight - THE ONE AND ONLY!

God's Peace Jr.

And the winner is....."JOUNIOR KNIGHT!".....
Those were the words last night at the 28th ANNUAL TERRY AWARDS SHOW. He was also one of the "Super Pickers" the back up band members, chosen for their abilities on their instruments.

I think the world and all of Junior Knight, and I'm convinced if someone could find finger prints on the Moon, jouniors would still be there from when he hung it.

I'm tickled that I got to visit with him for a few minutes last night.

Speaking for myself, I'm a "Knightite, and have been for 35 years!..... I'm just glad they don't call us "KNIGHTIES!"

Gotta add my two cents too... in the early '80s I was playing professionally in Dallas,.. on my nights off... down to the Longhorn Saloon to listen to Dewey Groom, but more especially to Junior Knight.

I was so blown away. What a great player then, and now... whew.

Junior you have inspired so many... thanks.
