It was good to see Bill at the Medicare Jam on Sunday, along with every one else. I didn't realize just how much damage he had from Katrina until I talked to him there. The folks down there still need your thoughts, prayers, and good wishes. I got to add to my collection of his cds while there, this one blew me away. The title is "Bill Stafford and his Electric Harp are Going Home". Recorded all in one take, no overdubs. I've never heard such a beautiful tone, or better playing, with some old favorites and some original songs. No wonder he was Jerry Byrd's favorite pedal steeler. I highly recommend this cd, you're gonna love it, I do.

schiefsan@aol.com is Bills email. All his cds are wonderful, I particularly the Two Southern Gentlemen collaboration with Herby Wallace.

I have 'Going Home' by Bill Stafford--and that's just what it sounds like. Bill-a man of many experiences--in your living room, playing the tunes he likes to play.
'Mr. Smooth' has been said a lot, but it's hard not to think that.
The sound of the Excel 14-string in Bill's hands has to be heard.

Did you know that Bill is also an outstanding painter? (Oil paintings, not barns and houses.) He has a number of his paintings displayed on the walls of his home. One fantastic painting in his hallway prompted me to ask how long it took him to paint it. His answer was, "I painted that one night when I couldn't sleep."

Something else: want to know how Bill keeps on getting better and better? He practices several hours every day -- usually starting in the wee hours of the morning when things are quiet and his mind and body are rested.

We have all of his albums and they are in constant rotation in our home and in our car. Couldn't survive a long trip without some "Going Home" and "Two Southern Gentlemen."

All you have to do to order any of his CD's is just click on the email address below:

Bill Stafford is one of the great ones. I got his CD "Going home" a few years ago when he was in The Lt.Zinn's Grand Rapids HOF fundraising show. It is great, all pure steel.

I will always remember , we sat together for a few hours watching the other great players and I enjoyed talking music with him......al

You folks are right about Bill, the first time I met him he invited me into his home for one of his Friday night sessions before the show in Gulfport. I was thrilled to jam with him, Mike Brewer, and the great Pee Wee Whitewing. Ed Clark, who sang on the Two Southern Gentlemen cd was there, as well as several other good singers and players. I was way out of my league, but they made me welcome anyway. Miss Betty said that Bill practices every morning at four am. I guess that's how he got so good. The cd, "Bill Stafford Mr Smooth" is the first one I got, I highly recommend it.

Truly one of the top players in the world and the very best Mississippi has to offer. EXCEL should be proud to have him sitting behind one of there guitars everywhere he goes. Of course, it's not the guitar, it's the man sitting behind it. I've met a lot of first class steel players at steel shows and they could all play but there's three that stand out in my mind. John Hughey, Mike Johnson and Bill Stafford.
