Does anyone know where I can get a new copy of this Curly Chalker tape. Mine has went bad after all these years of playing it. Thanks!

I have to get my copy converted over to CD. I've played it alot too. I've gotten most of my Curly vinyl over on CDs but not that tape as of yet.

I think that "Nevada Breaks" was a Tom Bradshaw release so if our tapes need replacing that would be the first place I'd check.

Sincerely,

I think it's time for a set of Curly Chalker CDs featuring the best of all his recordings.

I was going to wait a couple of weeks to announce this, but as long as the sunject has come up, a DVD of the 2 hour video that was prevously only available on tape is being prepared, and it is being made from the unededited 1st generation Beta copies of the original masters (the masters themselves were lost a long time ago.) The quality is about 2000% better than that of the tapes.

The DVDs will probably be available right around Christmas time.

I just discovered a couple of dozen of them ("Nevada Breaks" cassettes) in a box that Tom brought over. Price $10. Order item #A-036.

Well I wanted more Curley,
so this was a good prompt.
Getting Jimmy Day and Pete Drake too.
Viva le forum!

Mike P., Curley is a very prime candidate for your CD projects.

But I fear the original master tapes will need
baking at Ampex's tape salvage lab,
and then putting one pass onto digital.

I had talked with Tom awhile back,
and we both fear the tapes are in poor condition.

Guys, it is WAY too early to start taking orders for the DVD, which is still in the earliest stages of preperation. I shouldn't have mentioed it yet.

The 2 concerts were origionally recorded by Jack Lox and Scotty on VHS tape. Those tapes are lost. I have Beta copies made directly from those masters. These tapes are unedited and contain all sort of extranious material. I put them in a draw and haven't touched them for 18 years, so they have not deteriorated.

I made the edited tape (also on Beta) from which the VHS copies were made, in 1987, and over the years it has deteriorated from repeated use. So the VHS tapes are 3rd generation copies of a tape that's not in good condidtion. By contrast, the DVD is being made from the 1st generation copy which is still in pristine condition. The difference in the quality of the picture is signifigant.

I will post a notice when it's available.

Sounds cool Mike. I surely don't want to put any undue stress on you but when it comes to getting a video of Curls playing... well, I guess we all just went nuts. A happy nuts, at least.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" O.
