I have a 24-track digital studio that I do all my CD's at home. It sure beats paying lots of money per hour.

Me too...

"The Doghouse" Music is where I do some stuff for me, and a lot of full-blown songwriter demos, and even a few CD releases for independent artists.

When I have to wear the audio engineer "hat", to me - it really changes my approach to the steel guitar. I play a lot more commerical, cleaner things when I am responsible for making it "fit"!

A home studio is a great way to spend all of that "Extra" money... :-)

Been away from it for awhile so I'm still using Calkewalk Pro Audio 9.

I like having the ability to record live wav. files and MIDI both. That way I can keyboard in lots of different instruments in the mix if I want.

If only there were more hours in the day......

That lava lamp is a nice touch, Darvin .

I do a little bit of home recording on a Roland VS-1880, but I can't really call it a "studio".

No pic's, and no room... at this instant, about to build one.
Getting some assorted RPG sound control devices,
and making my acoustics portable also.

But I have a 64 channel Protools system with Digital Performer,
and assorted preamps, and a passable mic locker.
I own a Trident console, but it is installed in NYC,
and I don't use a traditional mixer anymore anyway.
5.1 surround Genelec monitoring system

All of it is presently on a ship off the coast of Africa I think.

I have been paid to record people since around 1963,
and just go with the technology flow as it were.

I envy you guys. I got nothing but guitars and amps right now. I'm working up a few steel solos, but I don't know if they will ever be to the point I could go in someone else's studio and make them work. But if I had my own capabilities in my own basement, I think I could come up with something eventually. You know, an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters...

I'm not into it big and haven't done anything lately. All I do is home~grown instrumentals to amaze myself! My equipment is quite simple and of course limited to what I can do, due in part to living in a mobil-home. My equipment is on Page-2 of this Personal Website L©©k, but; please don't laugh!

My studio contributes a third or more of my income (depending on the month!) I've been an engineer/producer at commercial facilities or my own studio since the late 70's. It's a completely different perspective on music, (the heart and soul end, and the business end). Sometimes it's a bit tedious working with a fairly talentless performer, but it's all forgotten when there's someone in here with real heart and vision- magic. It's so rewarding being involved with the creative end from the get-go. I've been fortunate enough to have some monsters record here, like Buddy Miles, Vassar Clements, and some true geniuses nobody's heard of yet.

I'm glad every day to have a studio. Sometimes I feel like I'm charging people to come over and watch me play with my electric train set...

My current rig has 32 tracks of old school analog pres into either Tascam DA-88s or ProTools.

ProTools LE on Mbox, running on a large old PC with 950 Mhz Athlon T-bird and 512 Mb of RAM.
TL Audio valve preamps, compressors and equalizers. Boss GT-6 and assorted pedals. Røde, Shure and AKG microphones.

I do my own demos, and some for other people as well. (Can't do multitracking of an entire set of drums though - If I want that I'll have to do it somewhere else).

16 track and 8 track digital workstations along with a bunch of other stuff that plugs into the wall socket....

I have recorded several FULL band demo's here but mostly it's all used for my own tracks and projects.

Another main use of the gear is for my DAILY practice. Every now and then I will push RECORD and compare Today's playing to Yesterdays..

I'm currently using a Fostex VF160, "16" track hard drive recorder.

Along with my own CD projects, I've done a lot for local singers.

Althouogh I have a stanalone recorder, I still use the PC for "mastering".

I've got an old Tascam 424 MKII, cassette recorder. Although it's limited with the 4 tracks, I have to say the analog has a sweeter sound than the digital.

A closet with a Zoom 8-track at its center.
(This is the old studio, with my mobile suitcase.)
You got to have a lava lamp.

Mine's pc based. I've settled on Sonic Foundry's Vegas as my multi-track software, after years of trying them all. It just seems to most nearly fit my idea of a recording's workflow.

Vegas' ability to produce dvd's (coupled with S/F's DVD Architect) as well as great audio was a plus for me. I keep reading that VCR's are going the way of the dinosaur. I keep thinking at some point, there's going to be a ton of vhs video of weddings and little league games and high school homecomings that people will want to convert to dvd. Over the last 2 years, this ability has brought some new income into my studio, and I sorta hope that trend increases.:>)
