The 2004 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association (HSGA) Joliet Convention will be held October 14-16, 2004 at the Holiday Inn in Joliet, Illinois. Join us this year and enjoy three days of non-stop steel guitar, talk-story and nightly open-to-all jam sessions (till dawn!).
We are pleased to announce that our Guest of Honor this year will be the Steel Guitar Forum's own Jeff Au Hoy.
We are overjoyed that Jeff accepted our invitation to this year’s gathering. Jeff has only been playing the steel guitar for a relatively short time but you’d never know it by his skill, ability and sensitivity with the bar. He sounds like a steel guitar veteran with years of playing experience. He’s been described as a “natural” on the instrument. He impresses people who know what the Hawaiian Steel should sound like.
Registration forms for Joliet 2004 will be available in March/April in the HSGA Spring Quarterly and also on the HSGA website www.hsga.org in mid spring.
Mark your calendars.

Thanks Bob,
Getting Jeff to come to Joliet was not my doing. Joliet coordinators Don Weber and Wally Pfeifer contacted Jeff and set it up.
I'm fired up about it. Bobby Ingano is showing up too. The jam sessions are going to be a blast!

This year's HSGA in Joliet looks like it's going to be a knockout, with Jeff and Bobby Ingano in attendance, along with the many other great steel players who normally make it to this event (if you've ever had the pleasure of hearing Ian Ufton, Phil Bender, Duke Ching, Isaac Akuna, to name but a few, you'll know what I mean). If you play steel guitar, this will be the place to be!
Imagine spending 3 solid days listening, talking, and playing steel with old and new friends in a very relaxed environment. It matters little whether you are a beginner or advanced, you will have a LOT of fun, and you'll leave with some new insights on how to become an even better player. This event has made a huge contribution to my development as a player, and I know there are others reading this that have had the same experience.
Several on this forum have recently brought up faults they see with the HSGA. Like any organization, there are areas that could use improvement. That being said, I commend the members for the HSGA for all the hard work and effort that it takes to pull off this event. There's nothing else like it that I know of, save the Aloha International convention in Winchester (which also is deserving of your support).
Hope to see you there!
Bill

Alan Akaka chimes in on Jeff Au Hoy's HSGA Joliet 2004 appearance...
"Jeff is a 1999 graduate of Punahou who is an awesome musician and steel guitarist. He can outplay anyone of his generation. He favors the David Keli'i style. His is young and in my humble opinion AWESOME"
- Alan Akaka, former HSGA President

The HSGA show in Joliet is outstandingly good. In my book it gives me what I could not get even at my own show in Atlanta.
IE, a show where the music was played at a level that was enjoyable; instead of ear shattering.
So, if you are among those who enjoy incredibly good music played at a decent level, you owe it to yourselves to go to Joliet. You will see and hear unprecedented beautiful sounds that have NO chance of bursting your eardrums.
May Jesus richly bless those who are responsible for this,

Thanks Carl,
Carl, you only came to HSGA Joliet once and your presence at the convention added so much to the weekend. Try to make it again.

Wow, this is truly amazing -- I didn't think there was anything that could leave Jeff Au Hoy at a loss for words ...
Congratulations, Jeff! |

"HAWAII"...the Hawaii Magazine, March-April issue says that Jeff Au Hoy is one of the new generation of Hawaiian Steel Guitar players to arrive on the scene, most likely the result of the recent rebirth of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar in the islands.
Jeff, are you really going to come out of your BUNKER.......to enjoy some some of this world-wide fame? Congratulations! |
