I highly recommend that you steelers grab these latest cd's from the Forum while they are still available!
CD #1 is Jazz in its truest meaning and to be heard on the steel guitar, WOW!
The ultimate Jazz scene for steel guitars would be Reece and Buddy Emmons dueling it out! Could that ever happen???

CD #2 is a wonderful example of sound/tone of the steel guitar playing standards of the past. What great listening to get you in that relaxing mood!

Do not miss out, do yourself a favor and get a set from the Forum!!

Obviously I'm not objective about these CDs, but I must say I think they are 2 of the best steel guitar CDs ever made. Particularly volume 2. If somebody is only going to get one of the CDs, I recommend this one.

I think it's fair to say that what Reece does here is make great music that just happens to be played on the steel, rather than play the steel itself. What I mean by that is that his choice of notes and chords and phrases is not influenced by the characteristics of the intrument (i.e. pedal changes) but rather by his inate sense of what is musically appropriate. His incredible single string lines on songs like "With pen in hand' and the previously unissued (in America) "You Needed Me" could have been played on any instrument. They just happened to be played on a steel.

These CDs really are quite wonderful. I think they may be my ultimate contribution to this community.

Someone "borrowed" my original LP's long ago. Yesterday, a few minutes after I put Vol. 1 into the player for the first time, I remembered what made me decide to try to learn to play steel guitar some 35 years ago! Thanks, Mike! (And thanks Reece!)

I've been listening to these a couple of days now and all I can say is AWESOME!!!

There's several different musical styles played throughout these 2 CD's, done as only Reece can do them!!

I would definatly recommend both CD's....these are a must have for sure!

I'm really glad to get these, they're great listening.

Major thanks to Mike Perlowin and Michael Brebes.

And many, many thanks to Reece; this is very enjoyable.

I have to put these in the small category of CD's I'd be proud to play for people that don't know what a pedal steel is.

I just got my two CD's yesterday and I played them most of the day today. I had all of Maurices "Moods" series on vinyl, but these have several songs I had never heard him play. Especially "The Shadow of Your Smile" which is probably my favorite song ever.

I have recordings of this song by Curley Chalker, Phil Baugh, and several Jazz Guitar guitar players, but I think this one blows them all away. The guitar player on this version sounds a bit like Phil Baugh without pedals, could this be? The next song though has that Bobby Caldwell guitar sound so it could have been Bobby on the "Shadow" too. Maybe Bobby or Maurice can clarify this.

I would recommend these CD's to everyone, the remastering and duplication was also superbly done. Thanks guys for making them available.

I would add my recommendation, but I would have to say that CD 1 is my favorite. I love jazz and blues, and this CD has it in spades. There are also some amazing sounds on one track where Reece sounds like Jimmy Smith the jazz organist.

I have had these 2 cd's for a week or so.

Got into the 1st cd very fast, and enjoyed in immensely.
As expected ; an interesting take on jazz standards, and other tunes.
Plus nice space for the sidemen to pick too.

The other I needed a day or so more before I could give it a good listen.

The second is a bit more laid back and pop, but, as noted, gorgeous tone,
and smooth as butter technique.
Makes me think of Chaulker in some ways,
and then again very different too.

Bravo Reece, Mike and all involved past and present,
for getting these cd's out into the "modern cannon" of steel music.
Where they belong.
DD

Richard G....Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words and gesture my dear friend.

Mike P....Everyone should know, that had it not been for your gentle persistence over a long period of time, these recordings would have never been made available.

Bill C....It is I who thanks you for sharing with me such heartfelt words.

Sidney M....No one could have a more caring and thoughtful friend than you. Tell little Lindsey "Reece" I love her and you two take care.

Bob K....I'm honored to have the priviledge of being on your "play list".

Darvin W....Sorry, but I can't remember who played guitar on "Shadow Of Your Smile". I will again listen closely and try to remember.

Bill M....Thank you for your kind words and suggestion of a musical association. Jimmy Smith was indeed a big musical influence to me.

Jim M....Thank you for your comment.

I recently completed a jazz CD which is not mine, however I had the privilege on being featured throughout. The CD belongs to Jim Stahlhut. (jazz guitar player)

Jim has captured the essence of jazz on this project, and his wife Barbara done an excellent job with the rest of the production. It's called "Out Of Nowhere" and you can order it from jshahlhut@earthlink.net

If you like jazz, I believe you will find Jim has captured it in this session. It contains some of the most complex progressions I have ever played.

David D....Thank you for listening and your kind words. I have been reading about your moving "escapades", and I'm surprised you could find the time to listen. I hope you're now getting "settled in".

Reece, I made the time to listen.
Your two cds are the 1st I got since I have been down here.

Yes, I am settled in, at the moment, but still not sure about where the recording set up will be.
I'm getting ready to play a pretty big festival schedual this week. Actually pretty relaxed about it at the moment.

I definitely want this CD of you and Jim.
I played with Jim, and Chuck Lettes, 3 years ago in the Hawaiian room, and on the big stage at ISGC, and I can imaging his chord voicings and you playing in my head.
COOL!

Me and a musical cohort were driving in the car the other day, stressfully trying to iron out details of a tour we're booking. Just as things were getting heated up with late sponsorship cheques and radio ads not being run on time, I threw in Volume 2 and we both instantly mellowed out. My buddy is a big Billy Joel fan, so I queued it up to "Just the Way you Are", and a big smile came across his face as he listened to Reece nailing every nuance of that great melody.

I picked up Jim's new CD at ISGC, and its great. I'm a big Jazz fan anyway and you can't get no better than this. Even though Jim put it together, Reece is the star of the show and I'm sure thats the way Jim wanted it, even though he did some great playing also. If you like good music, get you a copy.

Everything I ever heard by Maurice Anderson is top-flight steel playing! He is an original, creative and very GOD given talented individual. He is inteligent, very articulate, and the perfect gentleman.

I learned a great deal from him in my formative years on the steel guitar. He opened my eyes and ears to things on the steel guitar that left a lasting impression. But most importantly now, I call him my friend.

A concern, and I have voiced it many times here in the past, is that he needs to be included as a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. I cannot for the like of me in any form or fashion understand why Reece and Julian Tharpe another of our mutual friends, has not recieved this honor yet. There is no honest reason why they have not been included yet.

I am not here to argue with anyone nor debate the facts. But Reeece and Julian's playing and accomplishments and credits to the steel guitar world all are reasons to induct he and Julian into the SGHOF. Their creative, artistic playing abilities alone, in my opinion merits them this honor. Guys their will never be another Reece or Julian, they are special and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to hear, see and know them. May GOD bless all on here!

First off I too think Reece should be in the Hall of Fame, he has done so much for the steel guitar.

This may sound like a broken record but I too first heard Reece 30 years ago. He was the one who made me go from guitar to full time steel player. His great use of chords was so inspiring and his single note lines were so MELODIC!!! He changed my life back then. This is the reason I gave him top billing on my new CD, he simply deserved it. You know all that stuff about his music back then, well it's even better now. I think he's on the top of his game right now. The 2 Jazzers I brought in for the CD loved his playing and my friend John Scofield was blown away too John said he thought it was a great idea putting a steel guitar on a Jazz record, and that's coming from one of the top Jazzers there is!!!

Reece, What an inspiration you are in so many ways.

Jim
