suggestions needed
Our trio has been hired to play a 50th anniversary ,
and its a NO party type gig , its just the two of
them that we will entertain for two hours .
We are Old Country & western swing group ! we can sure give
them the OBS & San Antonio Rose ! Drink'n & cheet'n songs !
But !
What would you play at something like this ?
If we have heard it we can play it - Well ! Maybe part
of it . we fake most song anyway so give me a
list if you have any ideas .

Bob, all you have to remember is the age of these people and the hit tunes of their hay days.
I play with a band that plays a lot of old timer dances and believe me, the older folks still love the 40s & 50s music.

Tennessee waltz
Kentucky Waltz
Missouri Waltz
Beer Barrel Polka
Misty Blue
True Love
Only a few that still get to the old people’s ears and hearts.

We are old enough to be having a 50th our selves !
and that may be why we got the gig .

| I have a different take..all the suggestions were good, BUT, these folks were in thier prime in the 50's early 60's.. don't put them to sleep!.. throw in some classic 50's-60's pop/rock stuff.. Elvis, maybe a Buddy Holly. or similar.. mix it up... you'll make them smile... ENJOY! bob |

If this were some one we knew out here !
I don't think I would have ask you-all this
Question ! & some of us have been playing
in this area for 35 - 40 years and have never
been ask to do a privet setting before - These
folks must have heard us and like what we do ,
so maybe we should give them the old standards
and some old R&R . We are not ! what you would
call a romantic mood music bunch .
"All My ex's live in Texas " comes to mind !!
Maybe " Blue hair Driving in my lane "
This happens next Wednesday & I already feel
better about it , after hearing form you grate

Maybe instead of playing " We Could" you should Play We Did. Seriously They've heard you play before and like what you do. So play your music. If they have requests they'll let you know. I don't know if age dictates new or old music. At our dances older fans dance to everything.

All Supper input !
I don't think they will be put to sleep ,
we tend to upbeat most tunes & if WE
are going to sleep ! Its Time for Yodel'n ,
and hard core Horse S#!) & Gun Smoke tunes
I have made a list of all your tunes !
so I won't forget what you all suggested

Hi Bob:
I have been playing for the elderly for over 8 years now and I can tell you they will love anything from the 20's and up. It doesn't have to be all country. Any of the old standards are very acceptable, the rest is play with feeling and they will love it all.
