Excellent steel tone Larry. Lovely playing as well. Would you mind sharing your recording set-up? Mic'd amp(s) or direct? Stereo effects? Etc.? Many thanks. TC |

Thanks guys
TC,
It was a 1980 ZumSteel S-12 on a D-10 frame into a Goodrich MatchBox and 120 volume pedal, then into a Digitech 2112 tube preamp/fx unit and stereo out -- straight to the board from there. Both the acoustic guitar and Dobro were recorded using AKG large diaphragm mics -- C3000B's as I recall.
Thanks for asking.

sheeeesh, Bob
You're making me blush
This was more than five years ago, but I'll reconstruct the best I can.
Buddy was using hybrid preamp settings (tubes plus solid state) with of out of phase eq (a certain frequency was cut in the tube and boosted in the ss) in the 2112 settings he shared with us, but I could never get that idea to work for me. I used only the tube preamp section (solid state was muted or disabled) which added the tube warmth and eq along with a little 3 repeat delay and reverb. The eq was set with highs and lows boosted a tad and a bit of a scoop out of the midrange. I believe they were stereo effects but, like I said, it was a while ago.
I find it a little thin today. If I did it today I would probably pull some of the high end off and fatten the low end just a touch. I guess our 'perfect tone' target changes as we, and our ears, age.
