Last night I had the pleasure of attending a performance of the band Chris Ivey plays steel for, with special guest, Albert Lee.
They played at the Palms Playhouse, in Winters, Ca. It’s the first time I had ever been there, it’s a great place, originally an opera house built in 1917.
What a treat (Thanks again for the invite, Chris). It was a great show, everybody played great, Albert was on his game (no surprise there) and several times during the show, Albert and Chris traded some blistering solos. Chris was playing his Zum, he even had some great phase shifting going on during one song.
I had a great time, can’t wait for the next one!

Dang!
That was last night?!?! I was planning on going.
I had the dubious job of playing steel after Chris at the Blue Lamp in Sacto last week. Needless to say, I was way intimidated. But what can you do? You just get up there and do your best. Chris is a great player and very supportive of us new guys just getting started. His playing knocks my socks off.
Regards,
Joe

Hey, old home week. I'll be playing with Bob Woods, the guy with the tele in the pics, (no slouch on lead either) tonight. Been good friends with both Bob and Chris for years, and Dave Z. is right, Chris is smooth as puddin'.
Hey Joe, if you can still go back to the blue lamp, we'll(Amee Chapman) be there tomorrow night. Sacramento's doing pretty good these day!

Not to drift off topic but if y'all aren't playing next Friday, I'll be at Old Ironsides in Sac. I'll do an official post under Events and Announcements.
If anyone knows when Chris is playing, let me know. I need a little inspiration.

Hey Dave,
I'll second that on Bob Woods, nice guy too.
It's amazing what he can do without a pick.

Anybody catching sight of Chris... PLEASE ask him to get ahold of me. He emailed me a number of months ago and I promptly lost his email address.
And in the meantime, please say "hi" to him for me. He's one the friends I very deeply miss from the more-or-less-good-old-days in northern California. |

It looks like Dave Zirbel will be up in our neck of the woods on Sept 16th with the always enjoyable Johnny Dilks, lest anyone make the mistake of going tonight and accidentally seeing some hip-hop instead! http://www.theoldironsides.com
Should be a great show.

Hey Chris what'daya mean more or less good ole days:-)? They were all great when I was there I never had so much fun. Tex's saloon was in full swing Nashville West was wide open (thats where I played) and every club in town had jam sessions and cookouts on sunday oh and let's not forget Lloyd Hickey's man what a blast for me.
I really had a blast while I was there and I learned a lot. Had it not been for my education in Sac I would not have been able to make it in Nashville.
I remember it seemed that everyone that played guitar in Sac played better than me Oh well I digress......... hee hee |
