Dear All. As AP doesn't have regular internet access at the moment, I am posting on his behalf. Hopefully Al will be able to contribute personally sooner rather than later! Ian.

Just to introduce those of you who don't already know Al's background and music, his website can be found at http://www.alperkinsmusic.com
Al has two albums of his own are available on his website, or you can buy digital download versions track by track from Smart Choice Music - a new venture that AP has been involved in setting up. You can go directly to Al's artist page at this link:
http://www.smartchoicemusic.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=2
And finally you can subscribe to Al's newsletter which includes an introductory money-off voucher for Smart Choice Music by following this link: http://www.smartchoicemusic.com/lists/?p=subscribe&id=2

That's great news. Al started it all for me. I still listen to his stuff all the time and play some of it. Of course he's my Christian brother as well.
Welcome aboard!

I'm currently on the road here in Australia with Kevin Montgomery and subbing for Al (his regular steel player). Check the link: http://www.smartchoicemusic.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=2 and then go to Kevin's site (after you've checked out Al's offerings)... you'll find Al's fabulous playing all over Kevin's albums ... especially "Live from Glasgow". I'm surprised that the forum doesn't have a lot of postings about Al Perkins.
Welcome to the forum Al ... and thanks for the help.

Welcome, Al!
Loved the "Ever Call Ready" album with Hillman, Leadon, et. al. Yep, I'm one of the guys who bought that. Got to meet Bernie at Merlefest a few years ago. Nice guy.
Also the Manassas and SHF gigs looked cool from where I was standing.
Glad to have you on board, and thanks for joining us guys (and gals)! |

Anybody that is looking for a choice example of Al's playing need look no further that the recent DVD called "Return to Sin City - A Tribute to Gram Parsons". The band gives Al plenty of room to shine on both lap and pedal steel.
One of his lap steel solos was so fantastic I had to rewind it about 20 times and just laugh at how great it was!

Same here
Two Al Perkins favorites of mine - Everything, but especially his "take" on "Christine's Tune" on Last of the Red Hot Burritos; and his B-Bender work on Mike Nesmith's "Live at the Palais". |
