So I've been listening to a lot more Nilsson lately, something I'd recommend to any of you weirdos out there.

Just wondering if anybody knows who's playing those great licks on Harry Nilsson's "Joy"?

And for those of you that haven't heard it, it's on the "Son of Schmilsson" album. A classic cliche' country waltz, spoken, not sung.

"Now ... If you haven't got an answer,
Then you haven't got a question...
And if you never had a question,
Then you'd never have a problem...
But if you never had a problem,
Well everyone would be ... happy....
But if everyone was happy,
There'd never be a love song....

Joy ... was a beautiful girl.
But to me, Joy meant ... only sorrow."

Michael:

My old buddy Rick Jarrad produced many of Harry Nilsson's records. I know Red Rhodes played on the tune "Joy" for Harry. I don't know about the other tunes on that album.

Johnny -

That might be the only track on that album that has steel. Although it's a spoof, it's a pretty good representation of the classic, cliche' slow country waltz. The licks are just about borderline ridiculous, and the tone is perfect for anyone trying to sound "as country as humanly possible."

Thanks for the info.
