I will be coming out to Denver to visit my son,,September 14th to the 21st. I'd like to catch a couple bands while I'm in Denver. I have contacted Dick Meis..and I will be seeing him of course..but just wondered if there were any other groups available in or around Denver. Please kick it back as to the time and location of you place. My son, living in Parker, will know how to get there,,if you guys can give the the name of the place.. Looking forward to seeing some of you guys...Thanks for your time..

There arn't many "country" bands left around Denver but when I receive September's version of County Connection, a local country music maz, I will suggest where you might try.

Dick and Lois are one of only three good bands that I could recommend. The other two are 'Colorado Storm' and 'Hot Posse'. 'Hot Posse' is the tightest band in Denver.

I'll be back with you when I get September's schedule.

The Grizzly Rose has a live band that starts on Tuesday through Sunday. Don't know right off who's playing there when you are there but several of the bands that rotate in and out every month are from Dallas Texas.

My band plays there two times each year and we've tried to go see other bands while we were in town but when we ask where to go they say there pretty much isn't any clubs with bands near Denver. We wound up going downtown to a Martini Bar where we saw a jazz group.

Call Dick Meis at (303) 428-4397 and he can give all the details of country bands or maybe you can catch him and Lois live at "Crickett on the Hill".

His web site is www.pedalsteelguitar.net but he doesn't have September's schedule posted yet. Dick is a great steel picker and Lois is one great singer and sometimes bass player. Dick is also a fine gentleman and great person to work with.

Denver Joe, backed by Dick and Lois, plays every Monday night at the Cricket on the Hill. Joe is a legend and a hero to a lot of us around these parts. WARNING: Not for the faint of heart! Joe plays stone country, but his stage banter is on the salty side, shall we say.

You might also check www.denverbarndance.com for other options. To the contrary, country music (as opposed to Nashville music) is very much alive in the Denver area.

As fate would have it, I will also be in Denver the 12-17th.

George where is the Grizzly Rose? I'm staying at approximately Cherry Creek and Colorado Blvd, and I'm not at all familar with Denver.

By the way. I didn't mean to say that there are only three bands in Denver that are good. I meant to say that I only follow those three bands closely. There are indeed other great bands here but I since I don't follow them, I can't speak for them. That is all I meant to say.

George, I didn't mean to imply your band wasn't good! The Rose has some good bands that pass thru there. In fact, I will come out to hear you at the Rose. I would like to meet you.

Tim, there are some good bands around but so many of them have left country. You are working a good band and I am aware of your band's presence--you are one of the bands I haven't heard--only OF you. But you and I will have to agree to disagree on the quality of many of the bands here. I basically have stopped going to bars to hear country music because of my opinion of today’s country music. We all have our opinions.

When I'm not playing, I go home, grab a 6-pack and selectively play CD's and 33 1/3 albums. The nice thing about doing that is I get all my requests played.

By the way, for anyone wanting to go the Rose, don’t use the Mapit nor Yahoo mapping service. They are way off. I think they are using old sources for their calculations.

Looks like I'm just going to miss everybody, but I'll be at the Grizzly Rose with the Kirk Dillen band September 6-11. If anyone's going to be in Denver during that time frame, please stop in and say hello!

Hello Ben, the Rose is located on I25 near the downtown area. There is a Holiday Inn and a Best Western on the West side of 25 and the Grizzly Rose is on the East side a few blocks north of there. I am not from Denver so that is the best I do right now for directions. Hey Sonny, one of these days I am going to quit following you around and get to come hear you!! I play for Rob Dixon.
Leroy, do come by, I can steal licks from you while you are there...
I am looking forward to doing the show with Buddy Jewell as one of my long time friends plays bass for him and I am going to surprise the he.. outta him when he gets there..
