Saw a video of Kuu Ipo Kumukahi Show someone took at Sheraton Waikiki a while back. She introduced the steel player but his name was barely audible. He was really wonderful with sound of great mixture of old and modern. He perhaps played Magnatone D8 with twin pickups. Would anyone help me to identify him?

I'm not positive, as I can't think of anyone at this moment who plays a Magnatone currently, but Greg Sardina was her standard steeler for many years, and then John Ely took over for a while. |

Thanks Ron, it should be John Ely. His feature on his web site looks very much like the player on the video, wide forehead, beard etc. Does he have any CD out, backing perhap Kumukahi?

I don't think John has a solo effort on the market, but you can hear plenty from him on many releases by Asleep At The Wheel, the Western Swing group which included Cindy Cashdollar for years, and now has Big Jim Murphy on steel. |
