A pastor friend of mine wants to do a song (possibly an instrumental) at church that highlights the steel guitar. It doesn't even have to be a gospel song necessarily.

Any suggestions?

"Close up the Honky Tonks" really rips with Sneaky Pete all over it but if that doesn't work one that stands out is "Love Can Build a Bridge by the Judds". We do a lot of songs that fit steel well but I remember this one standing out for some reason. If'n it doesn't git ya shunned maybe try a couple of Byrds songs like "Christian Life" or "I am a Pilgrim" for the yuppies in the congregation. Lots of good steel.

"Teach Your Children", but if that doesn't work there's always:

"The Lord Loves a Drinkin' Man"... (Mark Chessnut w/ PF I believe...)

Why not do a Gospel song by Jeff Newman, or mabe a track from of Johnny & Joan Cox "ANGEL BAND" CD.

Many of the major ( and not so major) Steel players have Steel music that will just make your heart swell up when you hear it.

I don't see why the preacher should need to look for "beer drinking, bar hoppin" stuff to promote our beloved Steel instrument in a church enviroment.
