JUST heard this great country tune on the radio, have NO idea who sang it, or how old it is, but the steel and dobro playing in it was GORGEOUS!.. Thats the vocal hook in the song.. "Livin' and Dying looking over Music city from my cab".. anybody know the song and the steel/dobro players??...
Seeing as how its a REAL GOOD AUTHENTIC country song, I'll probably never hear it again!! I really enjoyed it.. Very pretty steel work! bob |

Hey Bob. If its the song I am thinking about, it is Kay by Daryl Singletary. It is on his Thats Why I Sing This Way album. Mike Johnson plays steel and the pedobro. |

I think the singer was John Wesley Ryles, or something like that, probably over twenty years ago. He was only sixteen at the time, had not heard of him since, but recently he was singing backup on a tv show but I can't remember what show or who he was singing with.

John Wesley Ryles was the original. He also sang backup vocals on Singletary's album. |

You can get "Kay" off of Apple's iTunes with Darryl singing it. It sounds great. It's a little faster than the way John Wesley did it. |

If memory serves me right, The John Wesley Ryles version was a hit in the summer of 1969. |

I moved to Nashville in August of 1983, Kay was being played over the radio a lot at that time.

As Zach mentioned, if it's Daryl Singletary's version, it's Mike Johnson playing steel. If it's the John Wesley Ryles version, then it's none other than Bobbe Seymour on that one.
