A new tune, a vast departure from the norm for Jerry Byrd, is now hearable on the Jerrybyrdfanclub.com site. A tune designed to effectively penetrate the juke box crowds shows how truly versatile Jerry Byrd was. This was from the 1960's or thereabouts.

I don't know about Jerry Byrd and the inportance of playing styles, I DO know that I enjoyed hearing the Ray Montee style out in Springdale. It is notable that every player that ever made a mark did so playing THEIR OWN style, not copying the style of somebody else.

Let me know when you're playing again, Ray, we enjoyed meeting you and your wife.

Hey Ray. Is that song called "I Wanna Learn To Play Steel Guitar?" I have that on a colection, and it has a much peppier sound than much of Jerry other masterpieces.... it's all just so good.

MORE IMPORTANT THAN PLAYING A STYLE, IS THE STYLE YOU PLAY...YOU WILL NEVER DEVELOPE A
STYLE COPYING OR TRYING TO COPY XOME ONE ELSE.
ONE OF THE REASONS IS TRYING TO REMEMBER
WHERE X STEELER DID SOMETHING, AND WHERE Y
STEELER DID IT, THEN GETTING CONFUSED AND NOT
PLAYING THE MUSIC AS IT SHOULD BE PLAYED.
MOTE: LEARN THE SONG NOTE FOR NOTE, THEN TRY TO
ADOPT A UNIQUE PHRAZING TO IT....BINGO; YOU HAVE YOUR STYLE........JENNINGS

Hi Ray,

I appreciate you posting this great music, but unfortunately I can't play them, because the player icon isn't visible. It looks like you have some things in your page which aren't visible from browsers other than Internet Explorer. I can't use that browser, unfortunately. Any chance you could put an additional link to the music files for those of us in who are in a similar situation? A simple hyperlink would do the trick.

Hi Ray,

Lately I've been sitting in with a group that plays 70's-style, from James Taylor to John Denver to Jimmy Buffet, and it behooves one to play a little differently than if you were playing along with a Ray Price type of tune. Steel really does fit with these tunes.

Playing different styles of music will shape your abilities for the good I think, and even give you a different outlook of how to play when coming back to the early Country tunes.
