I have come in possession of some rare Lloyd Green, Jimmy Day, Herb Remington, etc. albums from the wife of a recently deceased musician. She wants to pass them along so others can enjoy them. Because she is alone now,she would like to sell them at a resonable price to help with expenses. My question is what would be a resonable and fair price for these albums? They are in great shape because he took good care of them. So, tell me what would be fair price and I will post these in the For Sale section. |

Steve,
If the albums are decent copies of the original issues, they could easily go up to a price between $20 and $30 as most of them can be considered collector's items, especially for those who are collecting original records in excellent condition (playing and cover).
On the other hand, some of the listed records have been re-issued at a later time, or have been re-issued on CD (Jimmy Day on Bear Family Records, for example).
Given the fact, that the lady might need some extra money after her tragic loss, I would say around $20 is a fair price.
Kind Regards, Walter

Hi
I agree with Walter. On ebay these records sell for between $15-30 depending on condition of record and cover,so an average of $20 should be fair.

For what it's worth, I own the release rights to Lloyd's Green Country and The Hit Sounds albums. I bought the release rights from the owner/producer/copyright holder of these albums. If I could be assured that enough copies could be sold at a reasonable price to cover the cost of releasing them on CD, I would do it. I'm not asking responses here on the Forum. But, if anyone wants to let me know their willingness to purchase such a CD by emailing me, I'll keep track of those interested. With both albums on one CD, I would expect the price be somewhere under $20.00. ...Tom |

Hi Steve,
You also need to check the condition carefully. A mint record that's worth $30, is worth $1 in scratched up condition. Look at the vinyl under a 100 watt lamp in an otherwise dark room to see the true condition, or go outside in the bright sunshine and look at the vinyl.
Hi Tom,
Little Darlin' is seemingly releasing everything in their vaults through the Koch label. They just released "Master Of The Steel Strings" by Lloyd, which has a lot of the Hit Sounds LP and I think some of the Green Country LP also. It's an excellent CD, but did they get the rights from you?
Hope you're doing well.
Joe

Hey Joe: Good to hear from you after all this time. This whole thing is pretty funny. It looks like I wasn't the only one to be given the release rights. My contract wasn't an exclusive one. It only limited the number of these albums I could duplicate and, there was no time limit to my contract. I'm a long way from duplicating what I paid for. As you well know, I re-released both albums in my old Vintage Classic series over 20 years ago, then converted the albums to cassette in 1996.
When I bought the release rights, I was given what really looked like the master tapes. If you saw the reel-to-reel tapes and their packaging, you would believe that too. On those tapes were also at least two tunes that never made it to the original LPs. I'm going to obtain the newly released CDs and compare the tunes to what I have on those tapes.
Thanks for alerting me to this. How have you been? ...Tom[This message was edited by Tom Bradshaw on 24 June 2005 at 09:48 AM.] |

Well, I'll be darned! Joe Goldmark, do you have anything new coming out? I bought your newest (at the time) CD at Scotty's 2002 Convention, but haven't seen or heard anything since. |

Koch has released several CDs in the last few months, with material coming directly from Aubrey Mayhew: Lloyd, Jeannie C. Riley, Paycheck, Bobby Helms, Stonewall Jackson and a various artists CD.
Especially the Jeanni C. Riley CD is of interest as Koch did not use the original LD masters but the doctored versions that were used for a later LP. Also, the material is an interesting mix of heard and unheard, great and not so great material, some of the recordings are not even LD recordings (the early Paycheck stuff) but demo recordings that Aubrey Mayhew bought and added to the catalog. In addition, the Koch CDs do not contain the complete LD material, there are always a few tracks missing!

Hi Burr,
I've been keeping my hand in, and have been on recordings by the Twangbangers and Dave Gleason (CD - Midnight California, is good by Dave). However, I haven't done any steel CDs since "Strong Like Bull." Thanks for asking.
Tom,
Good to hear from you too. I'm still at Amoeba Music. |
