For quite some time I have felt compelled to attempt to express my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to so many of you who’s gracious acknowledgement of my career over the years, have been such sources of inspiration and encouragement to me.
The very thought that the instrument I love and have had the good fortune to play has benefited and brought pleasure to someone, is a privilege as overwhelming to me as it is humbling and gratifying. In all honesty should I never play another note, the realization that in some small way I have contributed to the joy of others would be reward enough.
At the risk of appearing falsely modest, please take it to heart when I say that I have never considered myself worthy of all the kind things that have been done for me or that might have been said about me.
The truth remains that anything I have been able to accomplish professionally would not have been possible to achieve were it not for you. I am who I am today because I have been blessed with the unmerited favor of others to whom I owe so much. As a matter of fact, if any laurels and accolades are to be handed out, it is to you that credit should be given.
I have been the recipient and the beneficiary of far more than I have given. The true enrichment of life that I have known has not come through beautiful melody or complicated chord progressions. Rather, my fulfillment has been realized through the relationships which have been created through our mutual love for steel guitar. I cherish these friendships, for they are the intangibles that provide abundant meaning to life beyond my ability to express. At the end of the day, it is I who has been blessed by each of you, for which I will be eternally grateful.

It usually works that way. The really great ones have so much influence on us and they don't even realize it. Reece you are not only a great player but one heck of a nice guy to go along with it. Best to you and thanks for everything you have given us over the years.

....quote from Reece: "The true enrichment of life that I have known has not come through beautiful melody or complicated chord progressions. Rather, my fulfillment has been realized through the relationships which have been created through our mutual love for steel guitar."...unquote...
Without question from most in our profession, you are one of the Icons of the steel-guitar...and of course you are being overly modest in reference to your extraordinary talent and influence.
But, having said the above, I defer to your quote at the beginning of my post and say that your words have spoken for most of us who are of much less ability than you....and that is that the associations we have formed over the years are the true measurements of the worth of our years of doing this "steel-guitar" thing in the music world.
Speaking for all, I send my appreciation.

In the case of many great players, the only link that the listening masses have to them is through their recorded work. I don't know Reese personally. I have studied his playing via recordings. In a lot of cases this is not really a truly fair way to evaluate a player since there would be much more to their career than just a few recordings done often ten or twenty or thirty years ago. I can say that in listening to Reece's late 60s recording of jazz standards he pushed the envelope of the Pedal guitar in a jazz/swing/pop setting as far as anyone had. I personally put his harmonic concepts, swing, comping techniques, phrasing and sound on par with any other player in that era, including Emmons or Chalker. |

Well Reece, the fact that you truly feel and mean the words you wrote, is what makes you the person you are!!
It's a man's character, good or bad, that in the end, shines above all accomplishments or talent! Needless to say, yours shines very, very bright!! |

I agree and add my compliments. I've always been impressed by the many forumites, especially those whose names are known by all--the gods, as it were--who never miss the give for the take, who never allow a compliment without a return in kind.
It's a pleasure to share and learn from your company and be recognized as colleagues (I could stretch to peers, but as I said to David Wright who invited me to try a Millenium at the Mesa show, "In front of you???" |

Reece,
I am so happy that I have the pleasure of saying that you are my friend. I have enjoyed the times in your home and the times that you graced my home as well.
Thanks for being patient and putting up with me while I was stumbling along trying to comprehend and retain what you were teaching me.
But most of all; thanks for the friendship that you and Teresa have shown over the years.

Sir, you are in my opinion, one of the legends in the steel guitar field. Even though I've never met you, I intend to do just that one day. I've owned and played many of the MSA's that came out of Texas. Always a fine product. Now I'm a CARTER man and the same name is on my Carters that were on the MSA's I played. The little stickers say "Bud Carter" on my guitars just the same as they did on the MSA's. Got to be good if Bud built it! Like to have you at one of our Mississippi steel shows sometime. Good luck and thank you for everything you've done to promote the steel guitar. |

Recently I began the search for my first PSG. I am a beginner to the instrument, and felt out of my element trying to decide what kind of guitar to be looking for; I read forum archives about everyone's opinion of different instruments, and I came away from that with the feeling that if I landed a shot at an instrument that Reese had a hand in, it would have to be good, and I found an MSA U12 that I could trade into. I usually would be a little concerned that there might be issues, but the overwhelming positivity I have received from every respected player I asked for advice has left me completely confident about the guitar. I have never met you, Reese, but if all these guys that have written about you can trust you, I can too. Not a lot of businessmen get the kind of respect that you and Bobbe Seymour command here. Thanks for being a stand up guy!
