I found this while searching the internet for Charlie Christian. It sure doesn't seem likely to me that it's the same Charlie Christian, jazz legend guitarist who played with Benny Goodman, unless he also played steel guitar.
The file was named "Christian, Charlie - Floyd's Guitar Blues".
Anyone know anything about it? Thanks.
Here is the file:

Hello Jim
As far as I can hear, this is identical to a record I have called "Andy Kirk & his Clouds of Joy". This cut appears on 45 and 78`s,as well as on a 10" LP,and a couple of sample albums. It sounds identical. However,I don`t see the name Charlie Christian anywhere, but if that is a different recording,he plays a very close copy! The steeler is "Floyd Smith".
He also recorded the same tune with "Krazy Kris",but there are some vocal hollow in there,so that version is slightly different. Can`t guarantee it also exist a version with Charlie Christian, But the record I have sound as close to the one you list as it can get.

Thanks, Egil. I don't think Charlie Christian is anywhere in there, someone probably misnamed the file or maybe CC was in the band comping rhythm... Thanks a lot for the info. |

That's Floyd Smith, guitarist with Andy Kirk's Clouds of Joy.
Charlie Christian replaced him in that band immediately after these recordings were made in July of 1939.

Thanks for all the help, all.
So though Floyd is llsted as a "guitarist", he obviously played steel too... Anyone know what kind of steel he played? |
