I'm spending about 8-10 days a month in Birmingham, AL and would love to meet any area steel players or know where there is steel music in the area.

Hi, Bill, I play a lot in different venues in Birmingham- you can check the dates page on my website for anything near where you are: http://www.markvanallen.com/2005dates.html
Looking at it now I'll be playing an acoustic set and then a full band Headliner at the Faunsdale Crawfish Festival on 4/15, then other shows 4/22, 5/5, 5/6 and 5/26. Also some in Tuscaloosa which is right down the road. Please introduce yourself if you can make any of these! I don't know much about other steeler's gigs in B'mingham, but I hear they're thin on the ground there.

Bill,
Try Tim Bridges at Tonemark Speakers. His address is tbridges@tonemarkspeakers.com. Also Brian Knox is from the B-Ham area. Hope this helps.

I got an email from Bob Simmons recently and he said he was back in B'ham. Bob made the Simmons pedal steel. He has a email address. If I can find it, I will let you know.

Hi, Jimmy, next Tuscaloosa date is Boo Radley's on May 13, with Hillbilly Trucking Co. I'll also be playing Oteys May 6 and Oasis May 26 with them. Bourbon Street in Auburn with Moonshine Still on April 30 on our way back from Jazz Fest NOLA.
