Know of anyone who might be playing in SF during the April 16 to 21 time period? Steel preferably but anything good would be fine.
I'm also interested in any good music stores in walking distance of the embarcadero area.
Thanks

edited 'cause my response was stoopid.
btw--love your refrigerator webcam! I'm bringing a hotplate & coffee pot over to the computer and camping out to watch the fridge. The light's gonna go on soon. I can just feel it.[This message was edited by Jon Light on 13 April 2005 at 02:42 PM.] |

Check in with Forumite Joe Goldmark at Amoeba records in Haight section. Call or email ahead, though, since he's not always there. |

I hear that Barry Sless may be sitting in on steel with Railroad Earth, my current favorite band, at the Independent on 628 Divisadero St. on the 15th and 16th.

You'll love the band and Barry is a fine player. |

I may have to cancel my show and check out Barry. He rips it up on the steel and the guitar.

Thanks for the heads up on this show....I went last night.....fun 8-9 piece band of excellent pickers. Spoke briefly with Barry Sless who was playing a Williams 12-string (extended E9). He was hot. They played mostly Bob Wills material and some Hank Williams. Thomson is a good singer...sounds alot like Emmons on his Bob Wills album.
By the way Tommy was selling his CD that features Bobbly Black on steel...excellent picking by Bobby. |

I went also (for the first half of the show)
Barry fit in pretty well although this was NOT the sort of music, neccescarily, I am used to hearing him perform! It was great tho to see Eric Thompson playing ELECTRIC guitar. I have long admired the work he has done with wife Suzy the violinist, and that, however, is usually ALL in acoustic/bluegrass
format. Rest of the band was not bad either, the violinist particularly (when they gave him a chance to blow.) and 2nd lead guitarist. I'm just a little curious why Barry moved to a single neck instrument (well- previous times I have seen him, he very rarely used the C-6 neck)
It wasn't totally my cup of tea but then, it wasn't NOT, either, and they did manage to make that old stuff rock. |

WOW....Bet I missed a great show.
