Man, every time I listen to it, this steel just blows me away. I'm almost positive it is Weldon Myrick, and one of my favorite breaks, just like malolactic wine, creamy and luscious.
On Jerry Jeff Walker, Big Hotel. Thanks, Weldon.

KenR...It's possible there may be several versions of this song...But the W.Jennings version was played by Ralph Mooney. The album is titled Honky Tonk Heroes...hope this helps you....a great run...I agree

Ken thanks for reminding me of Jerry Jeff's great version of this song. I dug out my "Great Gonzos" CD and listened and it does indeed sound like Weldon. Can't be sure though as my CD doesn't have credits as it's a compilation.

Respectfully,
Dave Burr

The Jerry Jeff version is Weldon. It orginally appeared on "It's a Good Night for Singin'". Weldon also played on the previous "Riding High" LP (that's him on the classic steel song "Jaded Lover"), where he was was nicknamed Speedy and they spelled his name wrong on the album cover. Typical Walker camp stuff.
