Was it the Chalker album "more ways to play" that had the photo of him with the old session 400 on the front? If someone has this album and could email me a good close up photo of the album cover,I need to look at the amp again to see if my memory is correct. It seemed to me that the session had a grey colored grill like my old session.Theese must have been the earliest models??Thanks George

George, I have the album. It appears to be as you describe it. I can email you a picture of it Monday from my office if you wish. Or I can make a color copy of it and mail it to you. Just let me know what you would like me to do.

George, it has the typical approx. 2 inch wide aluminum trim vertical on each side of the front, aluminum control knobs, the Peavey emblem in mounted center top of the grille and it has a grille cloth that appears to have metallic strands in it but I can't tell if it is silver or a dull gold color. I can make a photo of the cover Monday and mail it to you. You might email me a mailing address.

My old session has the same grill you describe .Kinda grayish with a little sparkle to it.Mine has the peavey emblem in the center, has metal face plate and larger aluminum smooth knobs, but mine doesn't and has never had the two ulum .strips down the front like the later peaveys.Mine has what apears to be the original jbl d-130F .Their is no serial number on the amp that I can find.I'm wondering if this was somekind of prototype or pre production session 400.Thanks for the info.I'll email with my address.George

George that old amp can't be worth much. You need to sell it to me cheap. Or I'll trade you one of those new fancy N-112's

Yea! All joking aside guys I have played through every steel amp peavey has put out from the later sessions to the vegas ,400,500's,1000's, nashvilles,...This is my favorite steel amp of all time.I did take the original jbl out and put it up and replaced it with a 1501 BW.I like the sound better for live large room jobs and I don't have to worry about blowing it(the speaker not the steel brake). Thanks George

I've tried a lot of different amps, tube and SS, I'm back to an old Session 400 at home and on the gigs with my push pull, it's all I need

On some of the threads I've run across, the last rig that Peavey set up for Curly was two Classic 50/212 amps. Mike Brown should be able to substantiate this.

Erv, that's correct - a pair of Classic Fifty's-
I'd stopped by his duplex several times just before he got cancer, one day he had me move the amps into 'just the right position' for him, as he couldn't easily move them himself.

Jimbeaux,
With her back to the camera is Curlys wife, at the time, I think Barbara was her name.
Curlys step-son thought she was still around Mt Juliet.
Sitting next to Curly is his son, Jarane. When Curly died he was living in Las Vegas.
Dunno whose hands are on the right nor near the changer, though.

I have a Peavey Classic here, it came with 2 12" speakers (now has a single BW 15") and it is a hybrid with two 6L6 output tubes (must be in the area of 50-60 watts), the earlier ones were discreet transistors in the pre amp which I hear are more desired than the later ones with the op amps (like mine, these say "VT" under Classic), although I love the sound of mine, and you can get these for under $200, the cabinet size is the same as the Session 400

If you can get a Session 50/212 for $200, you'd better grab it. The last one on e-bay went for right at $400.

Why does the pedal bar look so strange in the picture? Like it's at a funny angle.
