I've already told Tim Tweedale this in person, but thought I'd let everybody else know that his new Neil Russell Weissenborn sounds GREAT live. Tim has been using an old Kay for a long time, and it's got its upside, but the new guitar absolutely kills it. Same Rare Earth pickup, same JC-120, much better tone. Gorgeous. No comparison. It's sweet and clear and strong, and he was getting unprompted compliments about the guitar's sound from people (including me) after the show.
Tim will be playing tonight at 8:00pm at the Vancouver East Cultural centre with his band, the Blue Island Trio. Tickets are $10.
If you miss it, they're also playing on Saturday, I believe. It's sort of Hawaiian inflected roots/jazz, centred around acoustic steel guitar (flat-top and Dobro), with drums and acoustic bass.
I think it's a CD release party, or something, tonight. Sorry for the late notice, but I just realized that Tim hadn't posted any event notice here. Any Vancouver area people should come down and check it out.
