Two new tunes are up on the jerrybyrdfanclub.com web site. Hopefully you will enjoy both of them.
One will show how really expressive an entire song can be when played on a single string. See if you agree, eh? |

Ray, I can certainly agree with you. Jerry Byrd can add the necessary flavor to any tune whether it be on 1 string or 6. Red Kirk's tune "Ocean Of Golden Dreams" let's Jerry take a 50 second turn around. How many times have we heard of that in today's recordings? I knew Red Kirk and played many shows with him. He was one of Jerry Byrd's biggest fans, as most of his recordings show.
Thank's for putting the tune on there. Red Kirk passed away a few years ago....he was one of the good guys.

Hey Roger.........and what about Judy Perkins? Never found much about her but she and Kirk did some really fine harmony arrangements, IMHO.
"Church Bells Chimed" and "Three's a Crowd" are two more where Kirk allowed JB to really shine. Some of his finest works. Of course, "Why Do You Care" is another of my all time favorites with same kind of lengthy playing by JB. |

Ray, Red never mentioned her to me so I would not know. We played a 4 piece for a while, around in this area, before his death. Red and I rode together to the gigs and talked a lot about our experiences playing.
Red knew how much I liked Jerry's playing and when we were doing a show I'd try to put in a few of Jerry's licks in his songs. When I would get close to sounding a "little" bit like Jerry, Red would look at me and grin.
