It is with great pleasure to announce that one of my musical heros, guitarist Dean Parks, has become a fellow steel addict. And not just any steel . With guidance from Tommy White and myself, he has also become a member of the Fessenden family, choosing a SD10 with 4 and 5, set up by Jerry in his usual stellar fashion.

If you are not familar with Dean, just log onto www.allmusic.com and check out his discography--it is truly awesome. If you want to print it, make sure you have plenty of paper in your printer... . Dean has been doing sessions since the late 60's, and is a Texan to boot.

Welcome aboard, Dean!

Wow!

Dean is one of my heros. I guess I'm kind of glad I'm not doing sessions in LA anymore....

And I'm really interested in what he comes up with.

Very cool. I've always loved the playing of Dean Parks, starting with Steely Dan.

Thanks for keeping us informed, John. Think we could get a pic for the website?

That's great news! I met Dean at a jam session a few years ago along with Jay Graydon (the host), Steve Lukather, Tommy Tedesco, Tim May plus a few others. Dean is a great guy and an awesome guitar player. He'll be a great steeler too!

I was emailing with Dean after I saw his name here.
I met him very briefly a long time ago.
Nice guy and a really good theory and technique mastered player for any style.

Think his 1st real steel gigs will be for Crosby Still and Nash...
Nice to start at the bottom!

But it also gives you an idea of his musical chops, that an act like that would let him play on a new instrument for him.
A super player.

Hey, the first time that CSNY let a steel newbie play on their record, it worked pretty well for them.

Yep, for Dean, converting to steel will be about like moving over from a single-engine to twin-engine plane!

Piece of cake.

Congrats, Dean! You played me some Hawaiian tunes on a lap steel a few years ago. Sounded great. I can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Rick McD: I find it more like moving over from riding a tricycle to flying a helicopter blindfolded.

Thanks to John Macy and Tommy White, and Herb Steiner too, for the heads-up on Fessenden.

And Jim, you're so right about Jerry's help; he has a lot of knowledge and insight about every aspect of the steel guitar, not only the mechanics, but also steel playing and other equipment involved. And he is generous with his time.

And yes, my first outing is with the Crosby/Nash tour in Europe this February and March. I'll be playing a little bit of PSG in the show.

Thanks Jerry!!

I've always enjoyed your playing Mr. Parks. Best of luck to you in your endeavors on our instrument of mass destruction.
