In the January edition of Oprah magazine, page 141, several current celebrities were asked what they would like to learn. Johnny Depp said, "I'd like to learn to play pedal steel guitar." Starlet Teri Hatcher said, "I want to learn to be a country-western singer." Tom Hanks' learning goal was more modest: "To be able to fix a car...pop a distributor cap."

Actually, if you see the movie "Chocolat" Johnny's playing some very good gypsy-style acoustic guitar (really playing in shot, not just miming to a track). And he plays over the end music credits.

I vaguely recall that JOhnny Depp also played a National with a bottleneck in "Chocolat." And there are a lot of web references to him playing slide guitar with a band called Oasis. (I do not recall Oasis, though.)

Johnny seems like a peculiar fellow and I'd bet he's just peculiar enough to be a pedal steel player. Go for it JD!
