A few days ago I was visiting with my friend Bill Stafford.....when he asked me what I was gonna be doing the next few days. I replied "not much, why". It seems he was scheduled to fill in for Dave Easely in a theater production of the movie, "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas". Bill's wife, Betty, wasn't feeling well, so Bill asked me if I would fill in for him, and I accepted. Now I must tell you that filling in for Dave is a treat.....he's such a phenominal player.....but I practiced with the music production crew last night (Thursday)and will play the first of three Fri. nights, tonight.....there are some good musicians playing this....this is a first for me......

HAL..about 11 years ago I was called to do a production of BLWIT also. I REALLY wanted to do it but was working steadily with a local band that was working most of the nights the show was peforming,so I had to turn them down. I have ALWAYS regretted that decision. I hope you enjoy it! bob

Good luck with the show, Hal - I really enjoy playing that score.

We'll be in Lafayette, LA, on 2/17 with the national tour of 'Whorehouse' that I'm currently doing - is that anywhere near you?

Hal,

Bill picked a good substitute; you play a bunch of steel.

I get a lot of compliments on your vocal work on the three songs on my CD -- especially "The Lord's Prayer." That was a really inspired and inspiring performance.

We are planning to show up at Bill's April show/jam in Gulfport. Hope you are there to "howdy and shake."

I got to play 64 shows of "whorehouse" in the 80's at a theatre outside of Chicago and I ended up doing a bus and truck tour for a short while after that run. I had a blast. I think I remember that the original steel player on Broadway was named Lynn (anyone remember his last name?)and his parts were really unique and excellent. I learned some of them from a tape and got to add some stuff of my own. I also remember when the theatre owner's parish priest came to see the show and they changed all of the dialog to a G-Rated script. A lot of "darns, gols, hecks and flippin's" It was hilarious. The name on the marquee was "The Best Little Warehouse in Texas" that night.

You will do well no doubt about it. Remembering back the first time you , Bill and I first met David he came strolling in the Gulf Port show and set down with us and I thought to myself the right thing to do would be to invite him and Brooke to play. We did and we were all amazed. Now David and Brooke are usually there for every show. Hope I can make one soon. Good luck.
