I was privileged to be there. Three real masters on stage, who are down-to-earth guys that genuinely like each other. Left to right they sat: Tommy, Doug, Paul
They started off with "I Don't Get Around Much Anymore" Jernigan kicked it off. Great playing by all.
Second tune was "Cold, Cold Heart."
There were several tunes of which I did not know the name.
One tune was "Stomping at the Old Savoy" which was a tune on Doug's Skyhigh Steel recording. Very cool!
"Gonna Build a Mountain" - Great stuff.
A fast version of "Rolo Poly" was another great tune for all three of them.
Yes, they played "Orange Blossom Special" and they forgot to give Paul a turn!
Jernigan played "Arkansas Traveler" which is on his new CD with Brent Mason and Tommy tackled it once and so did Paul. I believe Doug gets faster with age.
BTW, today (Jan 5) is Doug's birthday!
Gear talk:
Paul: had his Franklin, rack stuff (don't know what was in it) two speakers in Marrs cabinets.
Doug: Zum with PF-1 pickups, look like Stereo Steel in his rack, and twin speakers. Really great warm tone.
Tommy: Fessenden with pickups that came with it (not TW pickups) and a Webb amp. According to Teresa, this was one of the last Webb amps Jim built.
Superb backup band as always: Earl Erb - guitar, Crouch - standup bass, Rick V. - drums

Paul had a Stereo Steel amp. 2 Line 6rack FX units(not sure of the models and a Digitech single rack space unit. I did'nt gawk long enough to get a model#. There was also a Lexicon PCM90? unit in there. Those guys were something else. And it sure looked like they had fun doing it. |

Doug’s rack and speaker cabinets were made by J&F Products of Tallahassee. His rack has a WALKER STEREO STEEL combo amp and a Lexicon Processor. His rack is custom wired so he can access the XLR fittings and the “Aux In” circuit without having to plug in to the rear of the WALKER while it’s mounted in the rack. All the features of the Stereo Steel are available from the top on his rack. This permits him to play his tracks at his Seminars and Church Testimonials on a CD player through the “Aux IN” circuit. His cabinets are closed back, tuned and ported with 15” Black Widow speakers. The rack and speaker cabinets are covered with the simulated tooled leather “cowboy tolex” vinyl. You can check out Doug’s new rig at www.allsteelguitar.com

Knock it off you guys. You are making me jealous since I could not be there. Sure sounds like you guys had a great time. What a thrill that would be to see that many world class steel players at one time. |

WOW! Now that's a Kodak moment! Looks like it may make a great desktop picture on my PC.
