Right now I`m at the Oseberg oilrig in the North sea outside the west coast of Norway. We`re 3 musicans waiting for the helicopter to take us to shore.

We played at the TROLL B rig new years evening and it is something special playing out here.
The workers out here sure now how to take care of you and the food are great!

They have music rooms filled with guitars, amps and all the equiment you will need to get the job done. Actually there`s several platforms out here and it looks like a bunch of villages lined up.

Last time we were out here we went down in one of the shafts at TROLL A - 900 feet below sea surface!

My Zum sounded about the same as on shore

Happy new year!

Dag

A Gig on a Rig! That's one of the more unusual engagements I've heard of, Dag. Hope you made it back to shore safely!

Wow, that thing is huge.

Dag, it all sounds great for the musicians, but you did not mention if there were any women on board! You guys really have to play better than ever if there aren't any to keep those riggers minds off what they are missing. steve

I made it home just fine. It was blowing at 50 knots but no problem for Sykorsky (sp?) heli.

Earlier today a shuttle heli had to pick the 3 of us up at Troll B for the Oseberg platform were we left 3 hours later. The shuttle heli had a crew of 4. Must have cost a fortune...

The gig out at the rigs are very pleasant to do. They have the best of fasilyties and everything is free. Gig are very well payed and they threat you like a king.

Turned out that one of the guys in the main control room had birthday - 50 year the 1st of January! So after we finshed just after midnight, we went over to the main control room and played a few songs for the him as he was on duty and couldn`t attend the show.

The workers at the rigs in the Norwegian sector of the North sea works 2 weeks on and 4 weeks off - schedule. 12 hours days. There are both men and women working. They threat each other like family.

I know that the Discovery channel sent a documentary of the TROLL A platform a couple of years ago. TROLL A are the biggest thing man have built and then moved!

Rick, yes thats the rig we played. Notice the white block at the left side of the rig. Thats the "hotel" and office part of it. 10 floores high.

Dag, what an experience. I really love your city. Have been there couple of times and it is so neat. The old boats were in my last visit and what a site. Hope to return in a year or two. wally

By extraordinary coincidence, Dag, I did not play on a North Sea oil rig this New Years Eve. What are the odds?

Great story! Probably #1 on the charts for most unusual gig this year.

Dag,
That sounds like a great one ! I love it when a gig takes me to some new place or situation I could never have imagined.

I played a local bar last night. It was extremely weird but in another way.

Hello
Happy New Year Dag!
I can for sure tell you that this is a special job, nice too in all ways, but at this time of the year we can have some really bad storms here,as we had this year, and the year I played the the North sea as well, but on a different rig.The wind was so strong they did`nt know if they were able to fly us out there!.They did,but that was the last tour that day,the wind was so strong, they cancelled the rest of the flights that day.It was long hours in the departure hall waiting to see if they could fly or not.Scared-Guess what!
Best from Egil.
