How many players started young, worked in the local beer joints, then went on to work with a name artist and after all these years, are back working the local beer joints? I am one of these players. Jody.

I'm one of those too, Jody. After working with Ray Price, Claude Gray, Tony Douglas, and five years at Gilley's, during the late '60s and all through the '70s, I'm now back to playing at the VFW, KC Hall, and local clubs. But I'm just thankful I'm still playing. Could be worse.

I _really_ came full circle. I bought my first steel guitar at the Sho~Bud store on Broadway in Nashville, and 30 years later I was playing in the same building, which is now a club.
Heya Bob, thanks for the lessons at the music store in Deer Park back when you were a Bayou City Beat!

Jody, I've certainly come full circle.

I started out learning to play steel in my garage, and now after 50 years I'm back to the garage and trying to remember what, if anything, I ever learned!

Started playing for dances, by myself, when I was 15. Six string Gibson and matching 28 Watt amp. Played for grange halls. Played for many clubs and a few well known stars and 56 years later I am playing by myself again, HWP Mullen 8+4 and entertaining our senior citizens, like myself.
I guess that is something like Jim Croce's song "AGE". I ended up right back where I started from!

In my case it was a much smaller circle. I started playing for fun, worked my way up to playing in bars for money, and now I'm back to playing for fun. The music is better now, though.

The greatest thing about giving up that decades long dream to BE somebody is to be back at home with friends and family and realize you ARE somebody.

Hi Bobby Tuttle. I feel the same way. I am thankful I am still able to play. I am with a traditional country band and it is fun to play the music I love. For you that don't know Bobby Tuttle, he is one of the best steel players out there. I have known Bobby since he was taking lessons from Al Petty in Odessa,Tx. when Bobby was about 12 years old. Al Perkins was also in the class. Both are outstanding players. Jody.

Jody,
our good friend Billy Phelps has gone full circle, infact he owns the "Full Circle Music" company. Me I'm still going full circle; around and around the pot looking for the handle. Hope to see you soon; looking forward to next year's gig in Katy.

I envy you guys that made the full circle. Being up in the north away from the southern spotlights I seldom even get to see the name acts let alone meet any of you.

Please report the name acts that you played with. Maybe I saw you if you ever played in Montana.

What Jody said. I started young, played a lot of joints, worked a lot of gigs with some famous people. Now back to where I started.Playing at the house and a gig when someone calls, which is not often. I would not change a thing. Been playing 40 plus years. Yep I have come full circle.

For Bob Tuttle

I remember the days in that old tin barn out on Spencer Highway. The acoustics were terrible but the band still sounded good.

Spen many a Friday and Saturday night there with the likes of Arch Yancy and some of that crowd. Glad to know you are still around and steelin'.

Hey Cal, the pleasure was all mine. Give me a holler sometime by e-mail.

Jody, Thanks for the plug. Hope to see you in Dallas in March.

Bill, Good to hear from one of the old "wild bunch". I guess I'll be pickin' till I just can't hold the bar anymore. (if someone will carry my steel and amp for me)

I started playing at barn dances back in the mid '50's in western Mass. Joined the Air Force and saw the world, hell, and back again for 22 years. Along the way I played lead, bass..and picked up the steel..Got to play in back of some BIG Names..and not so big names. Thought I was "HOT" when I WAS NOT!! Now I can't buy a job with a band....But I did have fun!!!3 wives and many girlfriends later. AND I'm Compleatly Sober!

Full Circle Jody? Never made that trip. Never played or toured with any "big boys", always a scratch band through many skull orchards, dives, tonks, churches, prisons, benefits, bandstands with chicken wire fences around them and others too numerous too mention. I guess you could say I've travelled in a "straight line" however. The line has gone uphill, downhill, and has at time "slud" sideways. There must be something to the saying "what goes around, comes around". I've just never been able to find "around".

Yup that Bobby Tuttle character is a super picker and it's evident he ain't about to "give it up". I think he'll confirm that he's awaiting delivery of a new Bobby Rains horn. How 'bout it Bobby, that true?
