OK.
I've been going over "Thanksa a Lot" lately. Great arrangement, and like a lot of your cuts on your CD's it's a real "Workshop".
Most of the stuff I can "get", but I want to know a couple things.
Was the Intro on E9 with a fast switch to the C6 and back again? I'm guessing the first four bars were all E9.
How many other parts of the song were like that? Did you do it all on one session, or take? When and where were the neck switches.
Is Brandella Brandy's sister?
TIAFYR.
Your biggest fan.

Eric, you are totally correct on the intro, but what I did on this song was record eight bars of E-9th, then lay out for eight then do it again, THEN--- I came back on a second pass and did C6th for the eight bars I had previously left open. In other words, I pretended that there were two of me, playing together, at two different times. (with an extra bar of soap)
Since this is the forum and many people will read this exchange between us, I'm going to put up a link so they can hear what we are talking about. This should be done by noon on the 22nd. (I'm not in Nashville at the moment, lap top comunications). The song I have to put up is "Rocky Top", but it was done the exact same way.
If you are really a fan of mine, I'm very honored, I hear from Larry Behm that you are a great player yourself, and I'm a hardcore fan of your writings/compositions.

Is Brandella, Brandy's sister you ask? No, but they do have a couple of things in common.
( did I really say that?) |

Well Bobbe, maybe if my Marrs gets done in Dec or Jan I'll be able to fly out and the "three of us" can get together. You're going to know I'm there when Brandella comes back in your bunker to get you, all flushed, saying that "there's a problem out front".
Larry is pretty easy to entertain, and we all out west here try to say the best things we can about each other. He's a Fine Player his durn self.
I never get out in front to hear myself in time to catch the sound, so I don't know.
I don't know if my writings have helped me, but I don't think at this point they've hurt my career. You can't get by in this life without pissing somebody off. What are they gonna do, send me to Portland to live in a bad part of town, play suicide gigs and do 40 hours of kamakazi construction work all week?
Thanks to for your gracious offer to help with our friend Lin P. We had a service for him, which many attended, and they interred him one way or another. Very sad. I told him how much I liked him and his playing when I had the chance, and tried not to walk on his lead lines. That's the best we can do. WHen they're gone it's too late. My prayers and best wishes for your friend in the accident as well.
I go over your CDs often on my puter as I mp3 them and loop the ones I'm working on.
Like ET would say: "Thanks a Lot".
Your Friend

Steel guitar player "Mike Toppins" engineered this session, and played guitar and banjo on it, not bad for a steel player, huh? He plays with Pam Tillis, and several Nashville "stars" and does sound work for Bill Anderson, (last I heard).
He also played piano on my "Pure Country Steel" album. Plus being one of the funniest idiots I've ever known!
I recorded this in 1994, at "Wulfs Lair" recording studio in Hendersonville TN.
I'll try to get these "clips" where they can be played by more of you. [This message was edited by BobbeSeymour on 22 November 2004 at 04:24 PM.] |

licks from the intro. I did!Why dont you get yourself these tapes and let Bobbe show ya how its done...Plenty of good solid tips and tricks in e'm too...Sad part is Ill be as old as Bobbe before I can ever play em' half as fast!

"I just dont believe a mere human could do that!"
Howard, so who said the cat is human? I know for a fact he rides motorcycles, flys airplanes, and plays steel like a maniac and I do all those things except play steel like he does, and my wife says I'm "not of this world."
What does that tell you? The man is an alien.

Fred, life is short, I have to do a lot of things, and love them all. But what fun would any of it be if I didn't have the great friendship of all you nutty fellow steel players! I'm a gear head, I like fast boats, fast airplanes, very fast cars, motorcycles, and slow steel guitars!
Thank you Fred, and all of you. I just wish I could see all of you more often. What would the life of a steel player be if we couldn't all stay in communication, see each other as often as posible and shuck and jive at every opportunity? I love being picked on, picking on and having fun in general with all steel players.
The life of a steel player, how can it be beat? (don't answer that!)

Larry B., If enough of you really want this "Tabbed out", I'll do it.
Just the one section or the whole thing? I used an echo unit on the intro and some other parts, some of it was picked normally, and this would be easy to tab. With enough interest, (and money) I'd be glad to tab it. it's really very simple.
Thanks for asking.
You are Talking about the fiddle part, correct? |

Bobbe, while you're at it could you shoot us the Nashville Phone Book with the male names omitted?
Seriously though, I'm about at the point where I'm going to plug in my Pod xt, post, as per your gracious permission, "Thanks A Lot", and go through it piece by piece myself, testing some stuff out.
I might even patch in my Dr Rythym and see how fast I can stumble over stuff I remember.
Actually, I listen regularly to your CDs a LOT and find in them from some of the oldest of licks, some of the most "current".
You're often obviously just "playing what's on your mind", and I can tell you, there might not be many shingles on the roof, but there's a LOT going on in the attic.
SO if we proposed you for the HOF, what would we find out......
nevermind..
Thanks.
Your Friend and Fan.
