GFI, Bobbe Seymour, & Stoney Stonecipher

Hello everyone! I have been reading this forum now for a while and decided to join today. But that is not why I am posting this message. I wanted to post this message to say thank you to a few people.

The first person I would like to say thank you to is Bobbe Seymour a year ago this Oct. I was looking for a steel guitar and really didn't know much about them and I bought one at a Guitar Center and because of my height I was unable to play it. I learned a few things just by hitting the pedals and the chord groups. I took it back because of this reason and went to a different music store. They told me about Bobbe Seymour. I called Bobbe one Saturday morning and told him my situation and he told me that if I would come to see him, I would leave happy. I was just about to give up not even trying the beast. Bobbe went on to tell me that if I wanted to come down that Sunday he would open the store so that I could look around. I decided to go the next Saturday to purchase a guitar. When I got to his store in Nashville he remembered talking to me and when I left the store I was very happy. He sold me a D-10 GFI ultra and ordered 1" longer legs and rods. I got the legs and sent the others back to GFI. Well this didn't help, so I called GFI and told them and they sent me 2" longer legs and rods with no charge. Every time I call and talk to those guys at GFI they have been very helpful. Every since that Saturday Bobbe just seems to get all my money. Ha Ha Ha

I just wanted to let everyone know who ever had a GFI or even thought about buying one they are a well made guitar and the after sell service is just wonderful. It is very hard to find service like they have provided me. They even sent me a tuning (pull) rod for free so that I could have the split tuning on the G lever and B pedal.

Last but not least I would also like to say a big thank you to a great steel guitar instructor Stoney Stonecipher. Stoney is great instructor and a good picker. I have learned a lot from Stoney and steel learning. If anyone would like a good teacher and located in the Knoxville, TN area I highly recommend him. Just watch that pointer though. Ha Ha Ha

I just wanted to let everyone in the steel guitar community know about my beginner experience. If there is any beginners out there or anyone who is wanting to learn this instrument or thinking about buying a GFI this might help in the decision because I was there once.

If it were not for these people I would have probably not even been playing today.

Thanks Travis for all the good things you said about my friend Bobbe Seymour and me and my "pointer". The pointer is a musical baton that I sometimes have to use to keep my students in line "ha, ha". One thing for sure is that it will never be used on Travis because that boy is moving as fast as lightening. He is catching on faster than anyone I have had as a student except Donna Hammitt. She became a whiz and so will Travis. But, of course, Travis is already a good electric guitar player.

Im Proud to say i am part of the GFI Family, I have 2 of them, and with out a doubt they are the best guitar (In My Book) built today! Gene And Bob put alot of time and care into there guitars and customers. And Bobbie is The best Friend a new steel player ever had... Again I Am Very proud To Be A part of this GFI Family.

What can I say about GFI and the fine family of players that this great marque has aquired? Stoney, Mike, Travis, Danny and everyone are deeply appreciated by me but I feel that it is my duty to help any new player to become the quality "pickecest" that he/she desires to be.
Yes Travis, Stoney is a real hero of steel guitar that doesen't even start to get the recognition he deserves. He has done much for the steel as Danny Hulihan is doing now in the north. A great guy.
Mike Sigler will soon be known as one of the greatest steel players ever, no doubt.
Travis, you'll be whatever you want to be in the world of steel guitar, very soon.
Ron Jones, thank you also, your friendship is priceless.

Sharon and I just wanted to add our 2 cents worth. 2 years ago we were ready to give up trying to learn steel from books. Then we found Stoney and we left the first class playing a real song! Little did we know just how much there is still to learn! We just recently bought a Fessenden D10 at Bobbe's and are very happy with it. I'm going to add that extra lever, Stoney. Looks like Fessenden has a kit for it.
