I will be in Toronto From Nov.16 through the 20th., and would like to know if anyone knows if there is a place where I might be able to hear some steel playing, preferably in the downtown area. Thanks
John. |

Yeah, John,
Take in 'Melody Ranch', it's a Saturday matinee right downtown on Yonge Street (Club 279 - 279 is the street number), one of my favorite 'ole stompin' grounds'. - Hosted by the lovely Mary DeKizer, it's one of the longest running gigs around town, with Chris Whitely although Bob Taillefer subs sometimes .
Have fun,
~Russ |

John, you might also check at a place called the 'Cadillac Lounge' which I believe is on Queen St West. I know that Al Brisco performs there from time to time. |

Thanks, folks. This will be kind of nostalgic to me. My first gigs were in Toronto in the 60's. It was in Toronto where I first saw guys like Al Brisco, Ollie Strong, Bob Lucier, and Rusty Walker play. These guys were an inspiration to me.

John,
Cant help you out much with venues but keep on the lookout for a fella named Terry Sumsion,Terry hails from the southwestern part of the province but does some gigs in Toronto once and a while too, he's got Dale Rivard playing steel and dobro with him, Dale was on the Northern Steel project and one great player and a pleasure to meet and talk shop with, good luck and have a ball....your old friend Dale... |

Hello John,
Russ is right! If you want to hear a great country band. Check out Mary Dekeyzer's band upstairs at the Hard Rock Café on Younge Street every Saturday afternoon. It is located in front of the Eaton Centre. I have had the pleasure of subbing for Chris when he leaves town. Burke Carroll also subs for Chris. Check it out! You might hear Chris or Burke play.
The gig starts at 4:30 p.m and ends at 7 p.m. every Saturday.
Have fun! Bob |
