I think ol Tater (Jimmy Dickens) is from Bolt, West Va. as well as Kathy Mattea and maybe Brad Paisley? I knew and old steel player from West By God Va. who was married to his wife for 65 years. I asked him once how they stayed married for so long and he said "We might have got divorced years ago but we didn't know if we'd still be brother and sister"........... Have a good 'un..JH

Hey Jeanie R......sure enjoyed our visit in Chatanooga...maybe we can do it again next year....I can't believe your 'musicians list'..talk about 'blasts from the past'...soooo many great pickers from our beloved state, many I've met and many I haven't, but one thing I do know, they're all great guys to go along with their musicianship...I guess we all have our own list of W.Va. pickers who have influenced us most and I'd like to mention just a few that come to mind...Jimmy Fain, Herman Martin, Ed (Rattle Snake) Hogan, Elmer Hickman, Billy O'Dell, Norman Chapman, Eddie Secrist, Bobby Haynes, Roscoe Swartz, Bobby Whitlock, Alan Morris, Mo Truman, Robert Shafer, Pete Hammond, Jim Metheny, Wayne Manning, and two guys that I still work at lot with here in Nashville, Wayne Moss and Charlie McCoy.....I think we should have us a get-together, a reunion of W.Va. Musicians, maybe Charleston would be the most centrally located place.....sorry to 'ramble' so much...I get carried away when I start thinking about the hills...Hey, any of you mountaineers close enough to Lexington, Ky., come on over weekend after this coming to the steel show...see you there.

I'm from Ashland,KY which is about 60 miles from Charleston. I used to go to the Longhorn in Sissonville (which was owned by Gary Boggs at the time) and jam nearly every Sunday. Ah, the good old days!

Ahhhhhhh, little Timmy Sergent---what a thrill to hear from you. I have tried to follow your trail through the "Chicks", Pam and Mel but then lost your scent. Are you currently with Mel? Oh, how I remember you sitting in at the Longhorn and Gary Boggs would go into a trance just watching you.
As Russ says, we all need to reconnect.
I still have your old phone number from Ashland written in my phone book. Love You!

Hi Barry, I'm counting down the days till Lexington. Hope Annette is doing well.
Jennings, oh yes, lest we forget so many,
Tater, Red Sovine, and "The Hawk Shaw". I attended a show in Orlando, Fla.in the late 50's when the Hawk performed and afterward we got to shake hands. As I gazed at that imposing figure in his white suit, white cowboy hat and a frame that filled up the doorway where he was standing, I meekly mumbled, " I'm from West Virginia too".
(Are you listening Jean?)
Bobby Moore has asked me to see if anyone remembers "Pinrod Adkins" who played around here in the 60's and passed away in the mid 90's.
Jerry Van Hoose, our own Roscoe attends our Friday night jams regularly, still sitting in some and as humorous as ever. He's in his 70's now. One of my heroes. Jeanie

Yes, I remember "Pinrod Adkins". I first met him in Milton at the Moutaineer Opry House in the early 70's and saw him many times in the area after that. Sorry to hear of his death.

Russ
I haven't heard the name Buddy Starcher
in many years, my Dad collected a lot
of his gospel song books.
Those were fond childhood memories.

I’m from Welch WV well actual Hemphill. To be a little more specific, Warwick Holler. First job was with Mel Street who may have been born in Grundy, VA, but grew up in Welch and later moved to Bluefield. I played on a station in Welch (WELC) with Cecil Sarette then later on WHIS-TV in Bluefield with Cecil, Mel, Buddy Pennington, D.Darnell Miller and others that I can’t recall. How about those Saturday night dances at the Bluefield Auditorium. Anyone remember any others from that time? I have tried to remember the name of a young girl who had a band and a Saturday radio show on WOAY Oakhill, sometime in the early or mid 50’s. Help! It was not Anna May Arnold. Another name that comes to mind is Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper.
