Big Mo has just re-mastered and released Danny's classic 1987 album "Unfinished Business", including his Tele and lap steel duets on "Lappin' It Up", "Sleep Walk" and "Melancholy Seradade"
When they mastered the CD from the original LP, it was kinda weak. I have been informed that these problems have now been fixed, and the track sequence from the LP is restored. The new release does include "Nit Pickin'" and "Georgia On My Mind", but omits "Fingers On Fire" (!) There is also a previously unreleased version of "Quiet Village" with Danny playing all the instruments.
The cover art has been changed as well.
I have no affiliation or financial interets in Big Mo, just a Gatton fan trying to help spread the word.

Well, I AM a huge fan of Dannys, and he was a monster steel/slide player. Most folks dont know that he was an excellent PSG player, but when he found the chance to have Buddy Emmons with him, he sold his PSG and used the money to pay Buddy, for as long as he could.
Great News!!!

On Danny's CD "88 Elmira St" he does an old Beach Boy's tune on steel called "In My Room" which is really great. To bad he had to kill himself like he did. He's really missed....JH

When I bought my original LP of "Unfinished Business", I was so blown away that I went back and bought two more copies of it to keep in storage for when the grooves were completely worn out. I still have one sealed, but #2 is getting worn. If you haven't heard this, you should really check it out. Anything by Danny is great, but this record is one of the crowning achievments of the guitar world, imo. Glad to see it reissued, maybe I can leave my last vinyl LP sealed.

I have the music for the 88 Elmira Street cd somewhere. No steel guitar indicated in "In My Room". Just monster bending on 6-string. It's been a while since I've seen it, am I wrong? JB |

I have a copy of "Relentless" from the Big Moe catalog.
Relentless features the teaming of Danny with the always amazing Joey DeFrancesco on Hammond B3. "Kindred Spirits" and "Chess Players" are some of the most amazing jazz jamming I've ever heard and that includes Danny's other recordings. Relentless is an appropriate title for this recording... GET IT!
Keep on pickin'!
Glenn
PS: For jazz guitar, check out Jimmy Bruno, too! [This message was edited by Glenn Suchan on 11 November 2004 at 09:40 AM.] |
