mp3's of my band Last Train Home featuring cuts from the new album "Time and Water" are up online at:

http://www.lasttrainhome.com/mp3s/mp3s.html

All the cuts are great (imo) but of particular steel guitar interest are:

Time and Water (fills and backing)
Once in a while (intro & "Texture")
Blue Skies (intro and fills)
Best Wishes (solo)
Pollo Rico (solo)

I hope you like what you hear if you choose to listen.

I guess you spent an hour or two getting that project together.

Great job. I've bookmarked it so I can get back and listen to the earlier things you have done.

Thanks for sharing the music.

Thanks fortaking the time to listen, and for the kind words and nice feedback; and thanks should go to LTH webmaster for posting the mp3's.

Maybe some of the folks who like 'em will actually buy the record...

Good job Dave...cool! Your playing on "Pollo" reminds me of Hal Rugg, and most of the other songs show more than a little "Gordon Lightfoot influence".

Keep it up.

Thanks Donny. I'm sincerely flattered. (criminy! Hal Rugg?). And as much as I am personally gratified, I also want to stress that it's indeed a group effort, that I am "playing for the team" and the "good of the song". Somehow this band, Last Train Home, comes together to achieve something "greater than the sum of it's parts."

"Blue Skies" is the ZumSteel. Actually all PSG on the current CD is. I haven't yet recorded with the ZB (a circumstance I intend to change soon)

Kevin:
Here go's

'98 ZumSteel U12 with '99 "dva series" custom wound Bill Lawrence Pickup:

My Zum originally came with a BL 712 but I had problems with it, and so I went to visit Bill in Bethlehem PA about 50 minutes from me one afternoon.

Bill asked me many questions about what I liked, what wasn't the 712 PU doing for me, and filled several sheets of legal foolscap with equations and had me play thru my amp while he tweaked and fiddled with stuff and rambled on about henrys, ohms and the like.

After a few hours of this, Becky took his specs and went into the back room... I came home with a new PU created on the spot custom wound for me, no official model number- it was about the time the 900 series was coming out so it may be similar.

All I know is I like the way it sounds !

Especially through:

1968 Fender Twin Reverb Amp retrofitted, likely early in it's life with JBL d130f 15" speaker . I believe we tracked with the Twin's onboard reverb.

And I think it was a Shure SM57 just off the center of the cone about 4 inches away- the engineer handled that stuff, but at another session he had performed a mic "shoot out" on my Vibrolux and the 57 won, so it was the "go to" mic...

George L's cables x 2 = 1@ 3 ft. to volume pedal, 1 @ 6 ft to amp
Goodrich L120 volume pedal
Clear plastic "dobro" thumbpick
Three dunlop .018 finger picks
JagWire Strings
Several cups of Folger's
Pepsi

ProTools. on a Mac g4

prolly more than you wanna know... (Jody has that effect on me)

Dave, I love that tone. It sounds retro to me. I think the Twin is helping with it alot. Great interpetive playing also. Good stuff man. I'd like to hear your ZB if you ever get some MP3's.
