I promise, once the newness of this guitar wears off, I will not be posting about every little thing I figure out about my National. Until then, bear with me...

When I was cleaning up the guitar, I discovered two additional pickups, or should I say sets of pickups, under the fretboard. Each pickup - is actually two pickups, one that covers the top four strings, and one that covers the bottom four strings. Yes, I know it only has seven strings, but middle string gets picked up by both of the pickups.

The guitar has four controls: Master Control, Natural Haw., Full Treble, and Full Bass.

I've discovered that some of the volume drops I've thought were related to bad or scratchy pots aren't. The controls work as follows:

Master Control: Master volume

Natural Haw.: Volume control for the main bridge pickup (the visible pickup)

Full Treble: Volume control for the treble side of the neck and middle pickups

Full Bass: Volume control for the bass side of the neck and middle pickups

So if I have all four knobs wide open, I get all three pickup positions running at full volume. If I have both the full treble and the full bass down, I have the bridge pickup.

If I have Natural Haw. turned down, I'm working with only the neck and middle sets of pickups. So if I have either one of those up, with the other down, I only get half of the strings responding.

Weird, huh? I'm not sure why someone would only want the treble strings up, or only the bass strings, but it's possible with my guitar.

I took apart the whole guitar to take a peek at the electronics - all of the wiring appears original.

Strange!

On a side note, should I leave the wiring as is, or should I rewire some of the controls? With all of these options, what other possibilities might I consider?
