Ron Lawrence, the thunbless, on his right hand, steel guitar player from Muskegon, Michigan, is still picking and still picking good.
I stopped and seen him in the Janie Lambert Southbound band Saturday night.
Quite a good group and Janie is singing as good if not better than when I was in her band back in the sixties.
Ron is proud of the fact that he will soon turn 70 years old and proud of the fact that the band is booked solid on week-ends through the winter. Quite an accomplishment with all players, except one, being in their sixties and playing some great Classic and some modern country music.
For those of you that don't know Ron, he is one of the first pedal steel guitar players from the Western Michigan, starting way back in the fifties.
It is long overdue that Ron be recognized for what he has contributed to the steel guitar in that area. Back in the sixties, he was one of the original band members with Bob Duncan and the Stringalongs that appeared on The Morning Show on WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michgan, the show lasting for over three years and an hour and a half five days a week.....7:30 til 9:00 a.m. Can you imagine getting up to do a show every morning after spending the night before picking and drinking in one of the pubs?
Great to hear you again Ron and you don't need a thumb....You do mighty fine with what you have, be it rock/steel or the great country.

Geess.....Ron Lawrence still playing in his 70th decade? That would make him about 700 years old....My mistake...I meant 7th decade.
