Congratulations go out to my friend Gary Lee Gimble. He opened up the St. Louis show this year, and if he played anywhere close to how he usually does, I'm sure it was a humdinger of a set. Not only is he a fine picker, but he's also been kind enough to invite me into his home and show me a few licks that I couldn't figure out on my own. He also served up some kinda mean chicken dish to me one night before we did a gig together. Hopefully the rest of the steel world will discover what has been in my backyard all this time. My hat is off and my glass is raised to you Mr. Gimble, I salute you!!

I was very impressed with Gary when I saw him at a jam in Virginia months ago; I think that he is a great musician and showman.

Charles, since you're in the area, I recommend you go check out the band he plays with. I believe the singers name is Jay Henley (I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) and has a web site with gig info and plays around the area quite a bit.

Gary is a nice guy, and a fine picker as well. I'm glad he made the "big time" at the convention this year. Folks, this guy is sluggin' it out in the trenches every weekend with Jay, and he practices hours every day to hone his skills. Whether it's playin' "off the cuff", or to charts, back-up tracks, or sheet music, he's got it all covered!

Way to go, Gary Leeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I went early specifically to see Gary play and I wasn't disappointed. His Zumsteel sounded great although the sound tech really did not get him dialed in the P.A. unfortunately until his third and last song. Gary it was nice to meet you and talk about memory lane with all those D.C and Maryland musicians and yup yer right about Garrick Alden but he can still play a mean streak..come to think of it so do you.

Cheers,

Guys, thanks for your words of encouragement but I feel an obligation to edit Donny's insight. The "big time" is clearly defined commencing on Friday and ending on Sunday. I played Thursday, small potato day as in red bliss.

Billy, you have an open invitation next time you visit our nations capital, don't be a stranger!

Your playing was great Gary! It take a lot to get up there and play difficult songs right from the get go. I do wish they would have dialed you in sooner. Had a great time with you and the boys. Talk to you later

Gary, this is no time for "humbility" (yes, that's one of my own words). Epicurean that you are, you should know there's no "small potatos" in St. Louis! You did play at the convention, and that's more than thousands of other steelers have done, myself included.

My hat's off to 'ya, guy!

And also, to Scotty, for givin' the lesser-knowns a shot at playin' for that audience. After all...it is the "Super-Bowl" of steel!

Gary, I'm going to agree with Donny. If my memory also serves me correctly (which it does rarely), aren't you doing a show in New England sometime within the next few months? Maybe Pauly V, Donny, Currie, and I should come along so you'll have some familiar faces heckling you instead of just a bunch of strangers!!! Oh, and Billy, I think I know how that conversation about Garrick went, and you're right, he is a scary picker.

Charles, the web addy below will bring you to our home page and will guide you to our appearance schedule. You are welcome to attend any "private" gigs, just let me know in advance so I can make arrangements to get you in. We've recently gone through some personal changes so our bookings are somewhat sparse until our leader feels comfortable to book out some more. I like the time off anyway so I can practice all those scales Doug Jernigan taught us during his seminar at the ISGC.
