Yesterday, I had a pleasant surprize. I dropped by the grocery store on the way home from work and as the carry out clerk and I started to the truck, a customer of my music store stopped me to talk about some sound equipment. I apologized to the young man taking the groceries out and he explained he had been to the store and he was interested in buying a pedal steel. This guy is 18-20 years old and he already plays dobro. He said he wanted a "real" steel with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers, not a 3/1 like he had seen. I told him about the Carter Starter and about some of the used steels on the forum. He said he could afford to buy almost anything he wanted, so I told him to come by the store and we would explore his possibilites on the forum and the venders who frequent here, Carter, Bobbe Seymour, Charlie Norris and others. I am excited to know a kid this age is so interested. I will do all I can to acquaint him with steel dealers and lots of Jeff Newman material.Just thought I would share the story. Maybe there is hope for steel in East Texas.
Thanks
James |

I don't think we can ever have too many steelers in the Lone Star State!

That would not be fair to send him and not got and I can't get away right now. I wish I just bring him St Louis. I will highly recommend a trip to Carter and to Norris Family Music. They are just over an hour away. I will let him play around with my ZUM when I get him to the shop again. If he doesn't buy by March, I will highly recommend Dallas

I'm 20 years old and have been playing since Feb. It all depends on a person's ear, because any age can appreciate the sound of steel guitar if they have a good ear for music.

Hi, Joe, good to see someone else my age on here!
I'm 20, too, and I have played since Sept. '01. Doesn't seem like that long.
Keep on pickin',

Hey you young pickers/wannabe pickers, you have come to the right place to look for/get help with pedal steel. Mel Bay books at your local music store(if you were lucky enough to find it)was about all available back in the early 50s. I was fortunate to have a couple of first rate steel players to steel from.
Best of everything to all newbies,"ask and ye shall recieve" holds true here. Thanks to b0b for this wonderfull forum.
James, thanks for a helping hand you be cool!!! |
