I received an E-mail from a fellow who lives in Boston named David Barabbee who wants to learn to play the steel. At the moment he doesn't even have an instrument. (I recommeded either a Carter Starter or a used MSA)

David is looking for people in the Boston area to help him get started. His E-ddress is dbarbaree@berklee.net

Is there somebody here who can help?

Well, as a Berklee dude, David, assuming that Mike Ihde is still on faculty, definitely get with him. If/when you want some private PSG lessons, I've got a buddy in the Newton area who teaches. Email me if you want contact info.

David, I'm also a newbie in the Boston area. Definitely call Mike I. There's also a steel teacher (Earl) at Minor Chord in Acton. You can always give Tommy Cass a call - he's got several used steels and knows the local steelers. He refurbished a Fender 400 for me for short bucks that I'd consider parting with.

I'd love to see some live steel around here. Email me and I can give details.

You can't lose with Mike Ihde and I would also highly recommend Doug Beaumier who resides in the Northhampton Mass area. Doug is not only a great player but one of the finest teachers of Steel guitar around.I believe his e-mail is Dougb@valianet.com

Be sure and have him look up Stephen Croes--he is the Dean of the Music Technology dept. Steve is one of my oldest and best friends, and while he is not a steel player, he is a fan of the instrument, as well as a great guy.

I have been teaching beginning steelers for a few years now...I'm in Salem, MA, about 25 miles north of Boston...feel free to give him my email address. I do housecalls, too (but I don't do windows)

Wow! So many steelers and so little live...

I'm getting this crazy idea about some type of get together to help us newbies and tag-a-longs.
