Last night while surfing on TV just before bed time, I chanced to run across a PBS show, Austin City Limits starring Joe Nichols, that I have no idea how old it might be, but there was TERRY CRISP (hope I got the spelling right)playing some really nice steel guitar for our national audience.
I did notice a unique method for holding his "steel" or "bar"....... I'd be curious, from him, what advantages it might provide him. I'd be afraid it would be easier to slip out of one's grip but then again, that's why I'm inquiring.
I AM NOT CRITICIZING Mr. Crisp, his great playing and tone and phrasing nor his playing technique. And, his gray hair shown brightly in the studio lights. Being a great player and handsome too, is what sets most steel guitar players off, from the rest of the musical group. Nice getting to hear you Terry!

I would guess that is a fairly recent show. I saw Joe Nichols a short while back at a Ct. casino and Terry was with him then. I have also seen Terry perform with Ricky Skaggs both live and on a much earlier Austin City Limits when Ricky had his country band, and Terry was most impressive. He has a VERY fast and clean right hand and absolutely nailed the bluegrass material Skaggs was doing at that time.

I had the opportunity to meet Terry back in 2001 at a place where I was a karaoke singer. He was working for Reba McEntire at the time, before joining Joe Nichols. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel
