Noticed that The Commander will be at the Rodeo Bar in New York on August 28. Anyone know if he will have a steeler with the band...perhaps John Widgren, or one of the other local boys?

Hey Mark,
FYI.....
I saw the Commander was listed to play
at the Rodeo Bar as well. But if you
check Commander Cody's website, it has
him in Keene, New Hampshire on that date.
It does list him at the Rodeo Bar again
on October 28.

What a cool room the Rodeo Bar is. Used to play there all the time with my band , The Surreal McCoys, back in the 80's/90's. Anyone visiting NYC should go and check out. Good food too.

I have to disagree with this. It's your basic bar food. Convenient and adequete.

The place is great in that it hosts (no cover) a variety of bands and it's comfortable and fun place to hang out. All the peanuts you want too. But I wouldn't go there just for the food.

I have not heard from the Ol' Commander for a few months, so I have nothing on the books with him at the moment.

I got to play with the great Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun, at the Rodeo a few Sundays ago...what a blast! Tele master supreme, and great guy to boot. The next night (Monday) Bill K sat in with the Western Caravan, and slayed the house, at the Rodeo.

How lucky am I??

I saw CC&LPA in Santa Rosa a couple of years ago and they were really bad. Bobby Black was down low in the mix, and the band was way too loud for the room. There were no real arrangements - they just jammed on the songs.

I don't think that Bobby tours with him. He's not really into playing rock'n'roll that much anymore. It seems that almost every time I've seen Bobby in recent years, he's been playing western swing or Hawaiian music without pedals.

Hi Bobby I catch Bobby Black about two times a year with New Riders at Rancho Nicasio. And they let him show his stuff on the steel, always a great show

Yeah, that's a nice venue, and NRPS are a much tighter band.

I saw them on tour in Seattle something like two years ago and they did not have a steel player. The band was great, but I was still dissapointed.

I contacted The Commander about sitting in with them in Portland in Sept. They are opening for Leon Russell.
Sounds like I won't know for sure untill sound-check the day of the show.
I'll be there either way!
