A very nice old gentleman brought me a very beat up and molested Fender T-8 for repair. He had tried to rewire it but couldn't get neck #3(the far one)to work. After examining his wiring and making resistance checks of the P/U's I determined that P/U #3 was open.Once I get the P/U rewound,I'll post a picture. It has the triangular P/U's,22 1/2" scale, vol. & tone,Telecaster swtich w/a toggle switch beside it,serial #9163.I saw one on another post that was descibed as a Pro Custom. Is that what I got here? How old is it?It's pretty sad lookin'-might make some of you cry if I post a picture of it.Anybody got any info?Thanx.

Your guitar is a Fender Custom. The serial number does not always determine the exact date of manufacture. However your serial # is app 1953.
The pickup problem you are expieriencing is common in Fender guitars of that age. Its
like arthritis, but it can be repaired easy.
There are many on this Forum who can recommend a good technician for that problem.
I would contact Jason Lollar who is a whiz on old Fenders etc.
I beleive his web site is www.lollarguitars.com if not I'll get the correct one for you. That is a GREAT guitar and I'm sure you will love it. edited to correct Jasons web address I think?[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 11 November 2003 at 04:55 PM.] |

I just had all three P/U's of my '49/'50 Fender T–8 Custom rewound by Jason Lollar. Now all (3) necks are wound to the same resistance, and the Custom sounds better than I've ever heard it. I found it in a pawn-shop 24 yrs. ago, and I always thought it sounded pretty good, but; the rewind by Jason Lollar was very worthwhile. I'd recommend his work to anyone! You can view my Custom on my website below!
